Run-away train wreck! It's

Run-away train wreck!

It's corporate rule and our White house in their back pockets!

Follow the money.

Our own government hasn't the confidence to make their own foreign policies, they ADOPT them.

Communism Kills thats all I

Communism Kills thats all I have to say.
And I would rather all of the budget spent on defense dept before any social programs that are not needed.

Communism does kill.

Communism does kill. Usually its own people. Democracy also kills. Usually other people. What's your point? Does one system kill more than another? Hmmmmm? There are examples from both systems. I think it is more along the lines of, "people who control large systems kill more than those who control small systems." Maybe the best system for peace is a small system.

Don't you think that this whole military-industrial complex is bankrupting the economy? Don't you think that a country that spends more on the military than the rest of the world combined is spending too much? Don't you think that a country that can bomb from thousands of feet in the sky onto a population below without fear of reprisal might become a bully (or cold-blooded killer)?

It is amazing to me that there are so many Americans who have turned into, for lack of a better term, "scaredy cats". You are so afraid that somebody is going to "terrorize" you that you ran for cover years ago and are still hiding under your bed. Don't worry, there are brave Americans who will protect you---the Americans who call this place home. We would never allow others to take over our country. Brave Americans will protect our country and its people from attacks--both foreign and domestic--if or when the time arrives.

Meanwhile, change your adult-sized diaper that you've been urinating and defecating in and shed that fear that was imposed on you by "the system". By the way, what you really need to fear are the automobiles---those suckers are killing over 40,000 Americans a year and they roam freely about. My oh my. Eeeeks.

You do not know what

You do not know what communism is then. May be more should be spent on education and not brain-washing. Because you have been brain-washed. Communism meerly says to "SHARE", which I believe the Bible also says. The greedy will not get into heaven, thank god, because I would hate to be there with people like you.

Why? The oppsite seems much

Why? The oppsite seems much more vaild. It would be a logisical nightmare to attack the USA form aboard, and we'd nuke the planet to oblivion in an instant. So why do we need a Military at all? Social programs and the payment of foreign debts seems a much better use of the money.
Casey?

I fear the

I fear the Military-Industrial Complex as much as anyone.
However, if you think spending more money on social programs will make a difference, you're brain dead.
I remember the beginning of Johnson's Great Society and the huge expansion of social security, medicare and medicaid.
Now, over 8 TRILLION DOLLARS later, we have more of EVERY ONE of the social ills the Democrats thought we would cure... More illiteracy, more alcohol and other forms of drug abuse, more STD's, more unwanted/unplanned pregnancies, more people on welfare, more poverty, etc. I don't know what the answer is, but it sure as hell isn't to spend more.
I don't mind helping people temporarily in need. So here's a thought; link Welfare benefits to being on birth control. If you can't care for the children you have, you shouldn't be having more. What do you think about that?

We need a strong defense

We need a strong defense against terrorism. Use Letters of Marque to capture Osama bin Ladin dead or alive. We need to close the Department of Offense and open a real Department of Defense -- one that will actually protect Americans. We need to use the savings to salvage social security and save the country from bankruptcy. These are all Ron Paul's ideas. Too bad Mark Fiore refused to cover Ron Paul's ideas accurately.

You cannot fight

You cannot fight "terrorism", it's a concept.

If America wants to be less hated by the people of the Middle East, there's an easy solution: be fair and even-handed on the Israeli-Palestinian issue. That's all we need to do. Stop vetoing every resolution against Israel in the UN; sometimes Israel is wrong.

There's nothing wrong with Social Security. It doesn't need an increase in payroll deductions, or an increase in retirement age, and it certainly doesn't need a reduction of monthly benefits. The fund will last until 2042, by which time the last of the Boomer generation will be gone, so it will recover before it is fully expended.

The real problems in America are plutocracy and theocracy. These are the real crises that must be addressed. And Ron Paul, and every other Republican, has no plan to correct them.

The Military should be

The Military should be condensed into the areas that are the same. Why do we have a Navy with their own Air Force, the Marines with their own Air Force, the Army with their own Air force, why do we have a seperate Air Force? Each of them should go back to their basics.
The Marines should be our First Strike force.
The Army the fighting arm after the Marines.
The Navy giving support to the Marines and Army and Patroling the open seas.
The Air Force also for support for the Marines and Army.
There would have to be less equiptment needed for each branch a reduction of equiptment means less money needed in the budget.
The use of civilian contractors doing work that military personell can do should be eliminated. This will also mean less money needed in the budget.
I spent months in Dry Dock with the Ship I was assigned to, much of the work done by civilians could be done by Navy Personell. The Ship's company was given the task of clean up and painting. Both the Flight Deck and Hanger Deck were resurfaced. The Sailors used a Grinding machine to remove the Non-Skid surface. It was long and tedious work and very slow. Instead of doing it with Sand Blasting which did a better job and much faster from the beginning, time and money was wasted doing it the Grinding way at the beginning. When somebody finally realized Sand Blasting should be used, instead of doing it the smart way and costing less, the job was given to civilians.
Every branch of the military works by the same code, Penny wise but, Dollar foolish.

I work in the navy and I see

I work in the navy and I see the some bad and good budget moves. BAD: There have been no reenlistment bonuses in my highly technical rating (aviation electrician) in years. Which means those talented enough leave. Often toward the end of the fiscal year office supplies are scarce!? (Not a question I'm just that confused). SORT OF GOOD: Much of our most complicated equipment is now run on automated test equipment but these machines are pentium 2 with windows 3.1 and 95(Linux anyone?). They are slow and crash/freeze often **cough windows 95 cough** GOOD: The expensive legacy f14 was phased out for cheaper disposable f18s. GOOD: My expensive carrier is well maintained and in great condition for 20 years old.

P.S. Great work Mark your informative like the news but much funnier.

None of this is about our

None of this is about our defense, nor protecting our freedoms, nor making the world safe for democracy, nor anything remotely akin to any of those. It is about funneling money, via our Defense establishment, to the corporations. It is about, say it with me, GREED.

Most of those trillions mentioned in Mark's animation go directly to corporations like GE, the largest arms manufacturer in the world.

The scheme works like this:

Lobbyists (there are 35,000 registered lobbyists in Washington, D.C....how many of those are working for you?) give lots and lots of money ("donations") to most of our politicians (who make the laws...or they used to...now it is more like lobbyists give the money AND the language of the pro-corporate legislation to our mostly corrupt politicians), who then make it happen in the form of appropriations and laws that benefit the corporations.

For the hundreds of millions that the corporations pay those governing, they get billions upon billions of dollars of contracts. Not a bad return on their investment of those donation dollars.

There is so little accountability anywhere in the equation that this a big bonanza for the corporations in whose interest it is to have war profiteers running our government.

All of this is at the heart of the great shifting of the wealth of this nation from the middle class and into the hands of those who represent no one but their own class, the wealthy and power hungry.

Hmmm, seems we have not

Hmmm, seems we have not heeded D. Eisenhower's warning about the military-industrial threat! We'll spend ourselves into the third world. Is there an example of this, look at the USSR!

What's funny about this is

What's funny about this is the fact that if we didn't spend this much on our military or defense, we would be more in danger to Russian, Chinese, and Iranian influence in the world. Tell North Korea that we overspend on our military. Most of your cartoons are balanced (I thought you were just a Bush hater, until I saw the spineless Democrats and the Crying toons) but this just stupid.

Fact is, the underlying

Fact is, the underlying issue is not funny at all!

There is no reason to be affraid of Russia, Korea, Iran, let alone China (from which the whole US consumergasmic economy depends). Wake up, the cold war has ended!

Also fact is that if you spend all this money on weapons, at some point you want to use them (like you flatscreen tv, right). The effect is that the US is destabilizing the world via its unwanted and unrightfull military interventions.

Think about how the US would look if only half of the military budget would be invested in health care, public transportaion, true public broadcasting etc.! In 10 years it could change from the 'grotesque nation' in the world to the 'greatest nation'!

It's nice to finally see someone in the U.S. who actually gets it.

Very informative!
