When politics and religion

When politics and religion ride in the same cup the whirlwind follows.

Anyway, I believe in the seperation of church and state.

I always thought the church

I always thought the church was a political organization that uses religion as a "fear" weapon. Go to your local Arena---I mean Mega Church, pay your $10.00 to see the god guy smite the evil doers and learn how you should vote. Hey it's right there in the "Buy-Bull".

Disney? Naw'. I don't

Disney? Naw'. I don't believe their Thumper was blue -'course, it depends on whom they are supporting.- the pun was cute tho - very enjoyable cartoon - as usual! GJK

Religion has no place in

Religion has no place in politics. Our founding fathers were right to separate church and state. They didn't mean anything positive or negative about religion - remember most of the FF were VERY religious. Their point was if the govt gets wrapped up trying to define morality they fail to do the things govt is hired to do - roads, bridges, schools, etc.

I believe the Bush gang intentionally stirred everyone up about morality, which no govt in history has ever solved, to divert them from noticing he has screwed up everything else! Besides being corrupt, the Bush gang is incompetent. The sad thing is they could have been just as corrupt if they had been halfway competent administrators. Remember Nixon was probably even more corrupt than the Bush gang, but he was pretty good at running the govt. People overlooked his crimes (until he got too lunatic) because he did a decent job. Nixon created Head Start and several other clever ideas.

The "Founding Fathers," I

The "Founding Fathers," I don't like that term, we're by and large deists. Since when has a deist been considered VERY religious? Caps are extreme and have you read the contemporary papers on Nixon, not favorable. Also people that say Nixon did things is silly the other party had a super majority, during most of his time in office.
Casey?

Thoms Jefferson has to be

Thoms Jefferson has to be crying; where is the seperation of church and state gone?

As a devout Christian, I do not want to hear anything from the neocons with their 'pro-life', mega-death penalty, let's go to war quickly mentality. I do not want God shoved into the conversation of politics; there was a darn good reason why the founders left religious persecution in Europe and headed to the new world.

Devoutly religious people show it in their behavior; I don't see any in the current Administration. Educate, feed and employ the poor, provide decent free health benefits, a decent living wage and affordable childcare if you want the number of abortions to drop. Talk to your enemies to try to avoid war, oh, and quit lying. That's a big one, GW. Guess you slept thru that class.

I loved the part in Obama's

I loved the part in Obama's acceptance speech where he enumerated the things we can all agree on, inviting people to find something in common with each other above or beneath the rhetoric that passes for public discourse.

The secular left has been pretty evangelical too. Throwing lots of elbows and dirty looks is not dialog. Projecting your fears onto diverse constellations of religious culture doesn't tell us anything about the groups you want to stereotype, it tells us you have limited communication skills. It tells us that you prioritize talking higher than listening and you prefer talking over other people to understanding them.

There are actually many, many religious individuals who work hard for civil rights and justice. I know many of them and I am one of them. We slander those Americans if we lump them in with the obvious bigots who get all the media attention.

Let's think about what we have in common for a while. I know it doesn't make for good entertainment without the drama. But let's try it anyway. At least until we say goodbye to the candidate of the Swiftboaters.

I don't have a problem

I don't have a problem working with religiously motivated people who share the page with me on the issue(s) at hand. The problem comes in when a political party embraces the language and practices of religion. Separation of church and state is the best policy. And let's get the religious institutions to pay taxes for fire and police protection and water service.

As for Obama, he can believe anything he chooses about marriage being a "sacred union between a man and a woman," but he has no right to deny me access to a civil contract issued by the state.

So, the "moderate"

So, the "moderate" Christians are offended because the wingnuts are getting all the attention! Where is the moderate Christian voice when Bush attacks evolution? Promotes prayer in public school? How come we don't hear the protests of the moderates about Bush's proposed regulations allowing any fundie working in the drugstore to refuse to sell condoms on religious grounds? Moderate Christians are cowards and have relinquished the bully pulpit to the crazies! It's clear something must be said about the phony wingnut preachers controlling the debate. I was accosted by a righty because Obama avoided the "when life begins" question. Well, I'm proud of him! Those self-righteous morons have controlled the stage long enough.

I'd rant, but I pretty much

I'd rant, but I pretty much agree with everything in the toon.

Take one part religious fervour, two parts politics, a heaping tablespoon of posturing, a dash of polling, bring to a boil, and you get...

...something.
