there is also a type of non-lethal defense weapon being developed which operates a lot like a gun, except it fires a clump of this weird powdery stuff that falls apart on impact. The good thing is that it won't pierce the skin and usually won't break bones, but it hit's hard enough to knock the wind out of a fully grown person. It usually won't cause any lasting damage (unless perhaps you fire it at someone's temple) but it has the potential to be a very effective means of defense.
