I think the issue around abortion and why it is seen by many as a woman's rights issue is because it is about being in control of your reproductive rights -- that no governmental body can tell you when you can or when you cannot have a child. I think often times, we exclude the "when you cannot have a child" from the debate.

There have been times in American history when women, particularly women of color reproductive rights were stolen from them -- forced sterilization, both chemical and physical, just as recently as the 90s, Black women in the south were being ordered by judges to have norplant or force jail time -- sadly enough, many of those involved in the women's movement were silent.
