Way to go!

This is so beautiful and

This is so beautiful and powerful, says so much in a short time. The use of animation and real film works amazingly well. I love it. Thank you so much for what you do Mark. Lea C.

Obama is half white.

Obama is half white.

What a great work. It's so

What a great work. It's so inspiring that black Americans stood up to fight alongside White Americans to bring about the changes we see today. If it wasn't for the enlightenment of the American man, people of color would still be subjugated. Thanks Mark.

Absolutely wonderful!

Absolutely wonderful!

Mark Fiore...pure genius!

Mark Fiore...pure genius! For those who are not astute to the lessons of Moses ( peace be upon him ) and the children of Israel, this montage is speaking to the struggles of the African American people to realize a dream. To lead a people out of bondage to the promised land. Dr King, was "a Moses" to the African American people. Not "the Moses", but "a Moses"
This montage has nothing to do with the second coming of Christ. It also has nothing to do with Obama being a messiah. This speech and this montage are about the realization of an American dream in it's purest sense. Like someone once said..." John Henry fought fought for freedom, but he didn't have to do it with hunting dogs at his feet or water hoses at his back? In this inauguration, American has rewarded itself with itself. It is a triumph of the American spirit. Only the truly blind cannot see that.
As we all know Dr. King died shortly after delivering that speech. The end of his speech, as well as various other segments were addressing Dr. King's own mortality. He was only destined to do so much as a caller for justice and freedom. This montage is about a promise fulfilled. And kudos to Mark Fiore because every single image captures the emotions of that speech perfectly!

hearing this speech still

hearing this speech still gives me chills. kudos on the fresh spin.

I hope that you all are not

I hope that you all are not getting confused here. Barack Hussein Obama is NOT the returning Lord.

Thak you Mark: This is is

Thak you Mark:

This is is the best yet !!!! Excellent work. What chaps my hide is that Obama tells US that we need to make sacrifices. That is well and good - just too bad, because he did not sacrifice a damn thing when it came to his Inauguration! Yes, we are in deep doodoo - so why not have a lesser pompous ceremony. What's even worse is the fact that the bankers he gave our tax money so freely to funded a big portion of his BIG BASH ! How arrogant of him to think he could pull the wool over our eyes .. One thing for sure - he is not MLK by any means - he sounds good but is very non committal about anything he says - so he cna change his mind when the time comes .. I guess you can tell that I am NOT in total adoration of this man. I can see that his mouth does not match his feet just yet! Chicago Politics alright ! I'm not ready to join the Obama Mania just yet.

I voted for Cynthia

I voted for Cynthia McKinney. Mr. Obama is going to need to be PUSHED into doing the right things and from the people he's been appointing and listening to, it appears that we're in for a long fight.

But if he lives up to half of his rhetoric, things are going to be 1000 times better than under Shrub, and it's going to be a LOT more pleasant to listen to a president talking in complete sentences. I just hope he'll not only be telling us the truth, but LISTENING to some truth as well...like Nobel economist Paul Krugman for starters.

I'm turning 59 this May and

I'm turning 59 this May and I've seen alot of American history; studied even more. That the degree of hatred for a people has existed in our country was always both a mystery and a disappointment to me. I've watched and read people's comments all during the primaries and the campaign and I still have to shake my head in amazement. Barack Hussein Obama is a well-spoken, intelligent human being and I voted for him. So what if his middle name isn't Western European? That alone caused so great an uproar that I wondered if, atleast where blogs were concerned, the comments weren't fictitious; intended to stir up things that did not even exist. Believe it or not, some of that same venom is still out there.

I guess MLK's goal is still "a work in progress", but I'm prouder of my country for having Obama as President than I've been for some time and I'll stand and take blows for him.

Peace

Geeze, every time I think I

Geeze, every time I think I have no more tears left, they start anew. My mom was a civil rights activist and, oh, how I wish she could have "met" Obama and his family. Your tribute was very moving, Mr. Fiore. Thank you.

Wow I have been visiting

Wow

I have been visiting your site for a couple of years now.

To come here and see something so positive and upbeat seems almost out of place.

But entirely welcome.

Thank you for your cynicism over the last 8 year. At times your humor has been a welcome relief during a frighting time.

But as the celebration of Americas recent achievement fads. Please do not forget to hold Obama to the same standards. Satire has always been a method to remind politicians of there own errors. Keep up the good work.

Do not turn of the Cynicism it is what will keep the free world free.

Magnificent, just too bad

Magnificent, just too bad Mr. King couldn't actually be here to witness the historic moment. Unfortunately, some comments suggest
racism, bigotry, hate and ignorance are still alive and well in America even after they have been shown the way repeatedly out of their chains.

Hi Mark, Now that Dubya is

Hi Mark,

Now that Dubya is gone, I hope you'll consider coming to Canada and producing flash toons about our beloved Tyrant Stephen Harper.

If you enjoying tormenting Bush in your toons, you'll find this Canadian Dictator to be more than a suitable target for your medium.

Keep up the great work!

Mr. Fore,

Thank you so much for this clip. My father recently passed and he would tell me stories of the Jim Crow. We often spoke of the Black struggles in America and how often our Civil Rights laws dont work. Although, he did not live to see President Barack elected, this small clip defined and summed what he would have put together. I wondered how I could think of a way to still share this experience with him eventhough his body has passed. This is truly it. I am truly overwelmed. Thank you.

Ah, a racism montage. That

Ah, a racism montage.

That MLK was quite a character. Your toon was a fitting tribute to his legacy. :)

Um... just a reminder... in this teary-eyed moment...

Mr. Obama hasn't actually... ehm... done anything yet. Except help to pass the TARP bill...
...and spend two trillion dollars in three months...
...and reappoint Bill Clinton's cabinet...
...and broaden America's wars overseas.

But Dr. King sure is great! :D

Thanks for the toon.

Well said my friend! I am

Well said my friend!

I am amazed that we are applauding by means of race. Isn't that opposite of what we have been taught, that race doesn't matter? So, is this an example of the hidden agenda, that if something is wrong in one direction, it is not necessarily wrong (but maybe even right) in the other direction? A very dubious philosophy, or demagogic teaching.

Please also note, that Dr. King is speaking of the Lord returning in glory. I hope that nobody believes now, that Mr. Barack Hussein Obama is the Lord who has returned. Indeed, that I can say for sure, he is NOT!

COTO's picture

So many misguided souls! And

So many misguided souls! And so little time!

> Wow. How'd he spend 2 trillion dollars already?

Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG (version 1), AIG (version 2), the $850 billion 'stimulus', Bank of America, Wachovia, WaMu, Wells Fargo, ... and on and on.

To answer your question: I have no idea how he's done it, but bailing while this man has been the de facto president is at $2.3 trillion dollars and rising. That doesn't include the hundreds of billions of dollars in bad debt the Fed has pulled off the equity markets. If you don't believe me, consult the articles I posted last week.

The money used for Mr. Obama's inauguration ceremony alone could have funded the construction of three new hospitals.

> And Broaden war?

In case you hadn't noticed, your country is now committed to wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Furthermore, HRC has come out with an iron fist of US support for Isreali action against Iran 'should circumstances dictate'.

> ...And he's signed legislation to place limits on lobbyists...

So did Bush. A lot of good that did us.

> ...And he's planned the closing of Guantanamo Bay, and the trials of the prisoners there...

Fear not, Knuckles. The secret torture prisons that Mr. Fiore has told us about again and again remain alive and well. Maybe a bit crowded, since they'll be taking in overflow from the Gitmo crowd.

> ...And he's frozen the salaries of the overpaid White House staff members (100,000 a year, if I recall).

If it holds, then good for him.

> And if Bill Clinton and his cabinet were able to give us $559 billion budget surplus, then I sure don't mine the "reappointment" of it.

The Clinton-era budget surplusses are a myth. The government changed the rules for reporting of asset classes and got creative with the record-keeping of long-term Treasury bonds.

Bush did it, too. I'm not saying he's any better.

This article explains the situation well. He takes an objective look at the hard numbers.

> ...but I can't deny that he was very good with the economy.

Sure you can. ^___^

Not even counting the phantom surplus, a good segment of middle-class American industry was gutted under his watch. The Dow and S&P were tanking when Bush first took office, in case you don't recall.

Again, though, I admit: Clinton was nowhere near as bad as Bush. :P

> He can only do better than what has been done for the past eight years.

That's almost certainly true. Let's hope we don't find out the wrong way.

> Also, he has signed Executive orders that will re-position the view of the United States, which has taken a beating for so long.

Like what, rolling over on Kyoto?

Have you seen how many scientists have quit the UN climate change panel in the past six months claiming man-made global warming is a crock and that keeping their jobs isn't worth lying about it?

If you follow the good ol' Sulzburger-run New York Times, probably not.

Ah well. Buying 'green' versions of crap we don't need will keep the economy humming along for a while longer, at least. As Mr. Fiore has pointed out: you can pretty much slap a 'green' tag on anything, call it 'innovation' and people will buy it.

I'm not complaining. I'm in R&D: sucking up your consumer dollars for designing 'green' versions of crap you don't need.

> Also, he is what Dr. King, and many other civil rights leaders hoped for when they where getting bitten by dogs and beat in the streets. So, only good could come now that all people are represented in government.

Yes, I suppose I agree.

> surplus budgets, job growth, balanced budgets?

No.

Yes, job creation in the Clinton era isn't a myth. Let's hope Mr. Obama can do the same--with real jobs.

And no.

Glad to be of service. ;)

You may resume your worship of the man.

Ah, so none of this stuff

Ah, so none of this stuff had anything to do with the previous Administration... thanks for setting me straight! I had no idea Obama was the reason for the Wars, or that he caused and created the economic crash and now the bailout!

Wow! Amazing! Hadn't even been elected yet and it's already all his fault... kinda reminds be of everything being Bill Clinton's fault, too....

I guess one thing is true: The more things change, the more they stay the same.... Republicans, same old, same old. Take credit for everything good, and pass the blame on everything bad....

We're Doooomed. After the

We're Doooomed. After the last 8 years it is hard to find fault with anyone whose trying to do anything different than the last Idiot In Chief. However, with every new Obama speech I do find that I am resigning myself to the fact that we are so frickin' screwed it isn't even funny. There will be no real change until we have finally hit rock bottom, the citizenry revolt and all of the current and past government stooges stand tall before the man.

"So many misguided

"So many misguided souls!"

And you're the worst of them. You are so determined to take a dump on this that you are outright declaring that nothing can be done and so nothing should be done. And meanwhile, people who know better are marching past you and doing it anyway.

Bitter, arrogant cynics like you have their place: on the trash heap of history while better people than you do the real work.

COTO's picture

Continuing the Obama

Continuing the Obama Debate...

> I had no idea Obama was the reason for the Wars, or that he caused and created the economic crash and now the bailout!

He's perpetuating the wars; his fiscal policies are worsening the economic crash; he endorsed and helped ratify the bailout legislation.

My point is not that he created these problems but that he's perpetuating them.

> Republicans, same old, same old.

I am not, nor have I ever been, a Republican. Rather surprisingly, there are people on Earth that fall outside the Republican/Democrat boxes that your politicians stuff you in. ;)

> You are so determined to take a dump on this that you are outright declaring that nothing can be done and so nothing should be done.

I am not posting to be contentious, nor am I posting because I'm filled with partisan rancor. I wish to present Fioreites with the argument that despite Mr. Obama's talking a very good game, the measures he's taking to 'fix' the U.S. economy are counterproductive. His duties (insofar as he has already executed them) have consisted of peddling catastrophic, Bush-era economic policies wrapped up in a hope/change bowtie. I have posted numerous articles attempting to prove this to you. I can post dozens more; you can take your pick: social insurance, OTC derivatives, hyperinflation, the bond bubble, skyrocketing debt, Federal Reserve corruption...

Please understand my ultimate goal: To encourage Fioreites, with the limited means available to me, to look at the hard numbers and realize that the financial crisis (engineered, or otherwise) is being used as an excuse to implement disastrous economic policies. Neither the 'hope/change' rhetoric being used to placate you, nor your hatred for the abysmal Bush presidency, nor your loyalty to your political party, nor your belief in fictitious Clinton-era surplusses, should stop you from exercising your better judgment.

Regarding what you should do...

Pay off all of your debts. Use credit cards only when neccessary; pay them off immediately. If you have a mortgage, devote as much of your paycheque as possible to paying it down. If you don't own property, now is a good time to buy some, but only so long as you have a salary guaranteed for at least three years and for which your mortage payments will be at most 35% of your net disposable income. Never borrow against the equity in your home (HELOCs, etc.).

Although it is almost impossible now, buy physical holdings of gold and precious metals. Do not buy gold certificates. Do not buy gold-backed derivatives. Do not buy gold stocks.

Stock up and maintain a rotating supply of preserves, fresh water, spices, and toiletries. Maintain a stock of emergency supplies. These are prudent measures to take even if the US dollar wasn't on the verge of total collapse in the next two years.

If you have long positions in the US stock/bond markets, especially the equity markets: sell them, and until they can be reinvested into physical commodity holdings, sink the funds into foreign currency markets that are not the Euro or British pound.

Work hard.

Do not trust politicians. Categorically. The 'experts' on whose economic advice Mr. Obama soundly relies are the same experts who claim 'they didn't see this coming'. (If you truly believe this claim, there's really nothing I can do for you.)

Regardless of all foreknowledge to the contrary, the 'experts' told Americans what they wanted to hear 'for the good of the economy'. Obama is doing the same thing. He's the shiny new salesperson. Don't let his significance as a milestone in the human rights movement blind you to this fact. Do not believe the rhetoric claiming that the average person can't grasp macroeconomics and that fiscal policy should be left to the 'experts'. Trust me: the 'experts' certainly do not have your best interests at heart. Do the research, lobby your government, and protect yourself.

That is what you can and should do.

Regards,

COTO

Exactly. This nation is in

Exactly.

This nation is in the worst economic crisis since the great depression. With the unemployment around 6.5% (November 08), the stock market in a downward spiral, and the entire world feeling the effects, things can't get much worse.

My main issue with Clinton isn't his political ability, but mostly with his... shadier dealings. But scandals aside, he was one hell of a president.

There actually wasn't nearly

There actually wasn't nearly as many scandals as people think, either. Just remember that Republicans were out to get him and threw as much mud as they could hoping something would stick. The unending "Special Persecution" that just went on and on. (Notice they dropped the law right as the Bush Administration was coming in, so it couldn't be used as a weapon against them as they had used it against Clinton)

With a guy spending millions to try and find out any dirt he could they sure made it hard, and we got to hear about every bit of any spectacle... no matter how unrelated.

We have come far as a nation

We have come far as a nation and we will overcome the disasterous legacy of George W. Bush even though that road may be long and painful.
