There is a disease raging

There is a disease raging out there. For all intents and purposes the Government would like to see the whole swept under the rug.The center for disease control(CDC) has issued the following statement;Lyme disease cases will outnumber AIDS cases by 5x at years end. If this disease is not treated correctly, it can have devastating effects on the human body.To those who take heed to this, simply google chronic lyme disease. To those who don't take heed; someday if you ever experience an unexplained illness that sledgehammers you to the ground, follow that same path I mentioned above, it will link you up to all kinds of help.

I think that most people are

I think that most people are unaware that Christianity started off as as a Buddhist sect in India. The book, The Original Jesus: The Buddhist Sources of Christianity by Elmar R Gruber & Holger Kersten, is very instructive. What you have now in America is a wide deviation from the Christianity that should exist. Modern Christianity is a very poor likeness of its Indian roots. A pure strain of Christianity, undiluted from its Buddhist origins, would embrace the poor and be a religion of mendicant monks who travel across the world to heal and to teach. Mark Fiore aptly nails this in the animation.

Modern Christians are an ignorant lot. While they scream about the homosexual agenda because the Bible tells them so, the most ardent of them would be terribly embarrassed to know that St. Paul may have been gay. According to the Damascus Document of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the early Church also excommunicated Paul. So when someone quotes Paul from the Bible, well, that's just heresy and part of the Lavender Menace.

Christianity started on the

Christianity started on the Jewish Day of Pentecost in the year of the Lord Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. It's beginnings are not related to Buddhism.

Hi, I'm NOT sure where you

Hi,
I'm NOT sure where you have any shred of evidence or the least bit truth for making such claims, but I would kindly bid you to do a bit more diligent research and study before believing and clamiing such things...
Also, it's EASY to believe what man says for some reason, but then reject and doubt what God has said in HIs Word. Why is that? If we are all His creation, why do we look to each other for answers or truth. I think that if you could open up your mind enough to just read the Bible ONCE, you'd find that these thoughts and words are CLEARLY NOT the thoughts of man, though God USED man to pen them down.
Paul was a God honoring and God fearing man, who would NEVER go against what His teachings proclaim. Therefore, if you'd ONLY give it a single chance and read Romans Ch 1, you would clearly find the answer and see truth. Living under man's nonsense and thoughts and opinions, you will NEVER find truth, for you will only be another man's thoughts, who's a mere mortal like you and me. GO TO YOUR CREATOR FOR ANSWERS AND TRUTH AS ONLY HE HAS TRUTH. ONLY God is ALL knowing and ALL powerful, not man. He has created ALL things and it's by His Hand that we and all the rest of Creation were made...why not trying to go to Him finally for some truth and the answers for which you seek. IF you diligently seek Him with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength He WILL reveal Himself to you, and THEN (and only then) will you find the Truth, for He has said, I am the Way, Truth and Life and it's ONLY in Him that you'll find eternal life. If you've NEVER given much thought to where you'll spend eternity..PLEASE do that before you find it's too late. He's given us His Word for direction, guidance and the MEANS of bringing us to repentance and salvation. If you'd ONLY give HIs Word a chance, you would finally understand and know...
You've most likely given everything under the sun a chance..how about giving Him the chance now...before it's infinitely too late...
In God's Eternal Grace...
Acts 15:11
But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
Please read Romans 1:16-32, you've NOTHING to lose, but everything to gain!
16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Issobell, I'm sorry but you

Issobell, I'm sorry but you are way off...Have you ever read or study the bible? I really encourage you to then you would know where Christianity started. It wasn't a Buddhist sect or anything like that. Then you'll understand that it's not a religion but a relationship; a relationship with Jesus Christ...please stop mentioning the dead sea scrolls b/c any Historian or scholar will tell you that they're not legit and were written by people who hated Christians. I'll agree that there are a lot of Christians who are just plain idiots and in fact aren't just real Christians, those are the ones you see in media...they don't count for most Christians...so don't use those few morons as your perception of Christianity

I FULLY agree that we have

I FULLY agree that we have WAY too many Christians that are giving VERY poor reflections and testimonies of Christ. Because NOT enough Christians are 'speaking up' for the things of Christ anymore, and are spineless, we have EVEN GREATER confusion than ever before.
IT'S TIME WE TOOK A SIDE AND STAND FOR CHRIST. For any Christians who are 'out riding the fences' trying to be HALF lifed with Christ and half in the world, this is confusin the unsaved and causing the weaker Christians to falter in their walk. It's time to 'pick a side,' and either be FULLY for Christ or NOT! And it's time for the REAL Christians to STOP being silent and giving 'silent approvals' for what's going on the world and start SPEAKING UP for what's true and noble and right!
If you're giong to live in the world and then try to be Godly on Sunday...please STOP...you're damaging our witness, effect and testimony for Christ!

Hate to tell you, but the

Hate to tell you, but the Dead Sea Scrolls were written before Christ. I doubt they hated Christians when they wrote them.

You missed rule 343H-7SR in the Cartoonist's Handbook: Pursuant to 343H-6, the cartoonist's work shall refer to actor MCC0F-C ('Lord Jesus Christ') with a degree of respect that i) can in no way be reasonably described as more favourable than passive disdain, and ii) irrefutably demonstrates the cartoonist's loyalty to the purging of all things Christian in accordance with the guidelines provided in section 208.

You've never actually read

You've never actually read the Gospels have you? Assuming he actually existed, in the Gospels, the supposed word of Christ himself, more often than not Jesus is a self-aggrandizing, arrogant, vindictive a$$hole who advocated chaos, death and suffering.

Some examples: "And he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one." Luke 22:36, "And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child; and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death." Matthew 10:21

McCain and Obama may be used car salesmen, but at least no one has made a career out of murdering people in their names. The same can't be said for Christ.

COTO's picture

Let us review said

Let us review said examples.

Luke 22:36-38: "But now," Jesus said, "whoever has a purse or a bag must take it; and whoever does not have a sword must buy one. For I tell you that the scripture which says, 'He shared the fate of criminals,' must come true about me, because what was written about me is coming true."
The disciples said, "Look! Here are two swords, Lord!"
"That is enough." he replied.

And the purpose of these swords?

Luke 22:49-53: When the disciples who were with Jesus saw what was going to happen, they asked, "Shall we use our swords, Lord?" And one of them struck the High Priest's slave and cut off his right ear.
But Jesus said, "Enough of this!" He touched the man's ear and healed him.
Then Jesus said to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and the elders who had come there to get him, "Did you have to come with swords and clubs, as though I were an outlaw?"

There are many good lessons in this scripture, but perhaps the most important is Jesus' very deliberate refusal to fight against his wrongful condemnation as a criminal, despite that the scripture clearly reveals his capacity to do so.

Moving on to Matthew 10:21-23: "People will hand over their own brothers to be put to death, and fathers will do the same to their children; children will turn against their parents and have them put to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But whoever holds out until the end will be saved.
When they persecute you in one town, run away to another one. I assure you that you will not finish your work in all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes."

A grim foreshadowing of the persecution that Christians would (and in many places on Earth, still do) face because of their beliefs. I only pray it doesn't get quite this bad in the U.S. We're obviously at the 'self-aggrandizing, arrogant, vindictive -hole' stage.

> ...but at least no one has made a career out of murdering people in their names. The same can't be said for Christ.

Neither can it be said for democracy, for science, or for America.
Neither can it be said for any good, powerful ideal.

Sir should perhaps study the Bible before accusing Mr. Fiore, citing tidbits of scripture he gleaned off his favourite anti-Christian website.

Why? I'm just treading the

Why? I'm just treading the same ground that Christian theologians have done since the beginning, selecting passages that seem to fit my point.

I say Christ, assuming he existed (I doubt it), preached violence and ignorance. You say otherwise. You are free to believe this of course, but isn't it fascinating that you've managed to discern the "true" meaning of Christianity when the most influential thinkers of the faith (Augustine, Calvin, Aquinas and Luther for example) cheerfully advocated torturing and murdering heretics, apostates, Jews and witches.

These were men who believed whole heartedly in Christ, devoted much of their lives to praying to and thinking about Christ and his message. The faith thought so highly of at least two of them that they were made saints. How is it possible that these extremely devout and, by all evidence, intelligent men got Christ's message so very very wrong?

Could it possibly be that they -didn't- get it wrong? Thessalonians would seem to support that conclusion. Or perhaps they drew their conclusions based on Christ's repeated injunctions that all of the violent dreck that constitutes the Old Testament is to be adhered to completely. After all "For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

We could bat this back and forth until the heat death of the universe, but there's really not much point. Judging by the handle & response, you appear to be a devout god botherer; I, obviously, am not. It's highly unlikely that I will manage to convince you to examine your faith with a critical mind and you certainly aren't going to convince me that Christianity has any validity, so we may as well table this.

Regards,

P.S.
For the record, I have nothing against Christianity specifically. I have yet to find a religion that does not disgust me with its violence, its hypocrisy or its blatant disregard for reality.

P.P.S.
By the way, I do apologize for the late response. I only wander through this site once every other week or so and missed your reply.

I think it's funny that you

I think it's funny that you write "assuming he existed (I doubt it)." Reason being is that whether he did or didn't doesn't matter. As humans, what we believe and think creates our reality. People having been believing in Jesus for over two thousand years, so that makes him real, regardless if he was an acutal biological being. The argument of his existence is moot!

I agree with you that Christianity is hypocritical, but that doesn't mean that Jesus is/was.

Casey_questionmark's picture

I don't think your first

I don't think your first argument makes a lot of sense. The last time I checked this wasn't Oceania where that reasoning would fly.

> I say Christ, assuming he

Yeesh. That's at least a 9.1 on the denial-o-meter.

> ..., but isn't it fascinating that you've managed to discern the "true" meaning of Christianity when the most influential thinkers of the faith...

These men each took a following after themselves, but with the exception of Luther, none can be considered among the most 'influential leaders of the faith'. Their role(s) largely pivoted around political dissent against the Catholic church.

They had valid concerns, and (to their credit) each sought to challenge the complacency of the people. That is, assuming that any of them actually existed. ;)

They rose at a time when great sins were being committed in the name of the Church. This was also a time when the laity was forbidden from reading the bible (and still fewer people were educated in Latin). They rightly challenged the supremacy of the Catholic pope (which is a title and position expressly forbidden by the bible). I know for a fact that neither Calvin nor Luther were advocates of torture.

The Calvinists, for instance, hated and condemned the Catholics for their use of torture. Apostacy was viewed in the same light as becoming a traitor to one's nation. It has its secular equivalent that to this day is punishable by death in America.

These men were largely warriors whose goal was to break the hegemony of the Catholic Church in Europe. Though their political influence was widespread and their efforts ultimately lead to the ability for 'common folk' to read the Bible, I would argue that the 'influential leaders of the faith' were the men at ground zero (the priests and God fearing Christians in the towns and cities) guiding the plebes through their daily lives.

Furthermore, sainted by men or not, none of the aforementioned leaders (nor the current pope, for that matter) had a position that was recognized or condoned by the specific church hierarchy laid out in the New Testament.

> Could it possibly be that they -didn't- get it wrong? Thessalonians would seem to support that conclusion.

Bring up the verses in Thessalonians that irk you, and we shall discuss. :)

> Or perhaps they drew their conclusions based on Christ's repeated injunctions that all of the violent dreck that constitutes the Old Testament is to be adhered to completely.

This isn't 'violent dreck'. It's a statement of fact. The biblical law has not changed since the dawn of time.

The ten commandments, the food laws of the old testament, the tithing laws, the festival laws, the tort laws, all still apply. Most Christian sects have carefully tried to work around the verses you just supplied since they're 'inconvenient', but you're right to criticize them for doing so.

Christ came to fulfill the law--that is, make it complete. To make it stricter. He commanded us to be forgiving, to be merciful, and to love our neighbour as ourselves. During the formative years of the nations of Judah and Israel, these chaste societies beset constantly by violent wars and ruthless enemies were permitted the 'luxury' of harsh laws. Mercy and forgiveness were encouraged, but never commanded. To a large extent, the reasons for this are still understood today. The societies were fledgling and could not permit corruption, attrition, or dissent, lest they be annihilated. They had no money to maintain prisons. They had scarce land, and were beset by wars, marauding parties and tyrants, where loyalty to family was a life and death matter.

Christ came to fulfill the law at a time when the nations of Israel and of Judah were established. He served as the perfect sacrifice (to replace all animal sacrifice). He added the second Great commandment. He demonstrated how compassion, mercy, charity, and selflessness interfaced with the laws of old. He added new taboos in some cases (i.e. condemning lust and fornication). But he didn't change the law. All the sinful things in the old testament are still sinful in the new testament (the bible clearly points this out). Christ honoured the Sabbath, and obeyed the food laws, and followed the law of Moses to the letter. I wish that more Christians today understood this.

> Judging by the handle & response, you appear to be a devout god botherer; I, obviously, am not. It's highly...

How is 'ChampionOfTheOmnivores' indicative of a devout Christian? :P

Our discussion is mainly for the benefit of others who decide to poke in on Mr. Fiore's site and are curious.

In this case, you cited specific verses and claimed that they proved Christ was a 'self-aggrandizing, vindictive -hole'. I was compelled to flesh out the verses for any forumites having read your comments. I am confident that many will see your 'self-aggrandizing, vindictive -hole' interpretation as misleading when given the full picture.

I have yet to be impressed by anybody that gives up on something because of their hatred for what evil people choose to do with it. Just because the George Bush government is the current 'embodiment' of the ideals laid out in the U.S. constitution doesn't mean that those ideals were violent, hypocritical, or oblivious to reality, for instance.
