For all of you who have

For all of you who have asked for the lyrics being sung by the choir, I have deciphered most of them and published them at http://JesusWouldBeFurious.Org/clericalpedophilia.html, where, as a former R.C. priest and seminary professor, I show how absolutely accurate Mark is in the points made so eloquently in this video.
It was long assumed that the thousands of priests like me who LEFT this organization were unfit, immoral, or the like. Every day, however, it is becoming clearer and clearer why LEAVING this corrupt organization is precisely what MORAL people HAVE TO DO.

Your last pre-pulitzer

Your last pre-pulitzer cartoon is completely truthful in its content regarding the Catholic Church's rather obvious and transparant and clumsey recent efforts at covering up the endemic molestation tolearted (and in some cases encouraged) by it at its highest levels.

But it's a pathetic cheap shot to the extent it ignores any underlying issues that critically should have been mentioned. Like so much of the propaganda machine that is the press here (be it "liberal" or "conservative", it dumbs down and exercises selective neglect of data to sanitize much the same way the Church's propagandists have tried to do.

The hypocritical attitudes toward sex and sexuality in general, and in great particular the requirement of celibacy (which was added to the priesthood in the middle ages to ensure the Church inherited a priest's property, not his children) is not dealt with at all by your cartoon. The celibacy requirement likely is responible in particular for a good fraction of the molestations (gay, straight, and bi) that the priests perpetuate.

And of course you neglect to point out the critical role of the Church (and closely related ignorant and vile supersitions: its brother religion Islam and its parent religion Judaism) in proping up existing ruling elites over the last millenia and more. Or even the fact that molestation of children by those with "religious authority" is not uncommon in both of those other misogynistic, homophobic, repugnant tradtions (tho less prevalent because of the lack of the added idiocy of clerical celibacy).

For that would be speaking REAL truth in some depth, which your cartoons seldom do.

He who pays the piper calls the tune. And like the Nobel "Peace Prize", the Pulitzer (especially of political work in particular) is given to those who sing tunes the ruling elite like to hear: and who do not in any way significantly threaten and expose them... often to those who distract with superficial criticism while being careful to avoid the deeper issues.

So, while indeed in many respects you DO deserve recognition, for you are a very clever and talented creator in this media, I wouldn't let it go to your head TOO much, old chap!

Still... congratulations.

PS I of course join most of your other commentors in expressing loathing and contempt for the ignorant and sick homophobic cretin who associated homosexuality with pedophilia. But then, that has been part of the both anti-sex and homophobic propaganda taught by this society in general, and by the Catholic Church in particular. Tho note that its origins are SOLIDLY part of the parent religion, Judaism. Just take a look at the "Old Testament". Or at the sicko reality of MOST Jewish religious practice (which consists primarily of Orthodox Judaism and its even more sickly twisted varient, Hassidic Judaism, NOT those branches that have or are in the process of renouncing the endemic misogyny and homophobia of the bible, such as Conservative or Reform or Reconstructionist or Jewish Renweal or British Liberal Judaism) today.

Note I was raised Jewish in Brookyn NY.

How is it that the Catholic

How is it that the Catholic Church evolved into the largest pedophile protective association in the world? Pederast priests have surfaced in every corner of the world. Most of them are not classifiable as homosexual; they are pederasts. On the other hand, the Church views them as homosexuals and the pederasts have been protected by various members of the hierarchy. How many of the hierarchy protect the pederasts because they themselves are homosexuals rather than pederasts?

Catholicism is little more than a corrupt corporation -- Jesus is the product. And..yes, I was raised and educated as Catholic.

The corruption MUST stop. The lack of protection of children MUST stop. The lack of accountability MUST stop.

Hey: By making this cartoon

Hey:

By making this cartoon you, not only offend the Church and Catholics who are also claiming for justice against people who acted wrong, but also the people and families affected by those priests.
I hope you get good money for it, because you are not getting anything better than that. Obviously you are not helping in the matter but creating confusion, don’t matter how many prizes you get. I really think you can do better

And the bible tells us 'you

And the bible tells us 'you shall know them by their fruits'.

The Vatican should perhaps take a long look at 1 Timothy 4:1-3:

"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth."

Note that "certain foods" in these verses refers to the 'good' Eucharistic foods--the bread and the wine--which again points to Catholic doctrine.

How much pain and evil would be prevented if people diligently researched biblical doctrine and asked their ministers/priests/clergymen the questions that need to be asked.

The babies as armrests was a nice (albeit dark-humoured) touch.

And add one more voice to the throng asking for subtitles.

I apologize, it is titled

Hello, Anon I had to look

Hello, Anon

I had to look back, too, but I believe that's why Mark titled the piece 'un-gay'

To another Anon, it does not even touch upon bringing this to light - for every one who stepped forward, there are a dozen that didn't because of shame that came from where?....oh, yea. Scarred for life; don’t tell them to get over it.

I KNOW not all priests are bad, and the piece does NOT say they are. But those that DO commit a crime, and those that covered it up, need consequences, like being tried as regular criminals - with non-denominational jury selection, of course.

But if you DO want to make Mark's piece encompass all issues*, as another rightfully pointed out, don’t forget about all the lives taken in the name of Christ.

Some churches are locked now except for (as if God has) normal business office hours. Unlikely that the church will use all those properties for desperately needed homeless shelters - without a biblical hitch, I mean. They are anti-Christ by letting so many in the world suffer.

But for this issue, our 'gold' subsidizes filth of those peds. Because they insist on imposing their beliefs on others, they should DEFINITELY lose their tax exempt status.....sorry I don't know how to make this a direct link.....

By its nature, satire BITES,

By its nature, satire BITES, and this does. Good satire is funny, and this qualifies on a couple of counts at least. (But does NOT QUALIFY on that score on more than a couple of other counts.

Funny to me: 1) the depiction of the bearded, peace-nik young priest in sandals, flying rosary beads as a necklace, and flashing the double-digit peace-sign in sync with the sung words "Vatican II." 2)The hierarch paraphrasing President Harry Truman, "The buck stops [pointedly gesturing far away] OVER THERE!"

Not funny: The implication, very cleverly suggested if not stated, that the clerical abuse scandal in the Catholic Church was not either because of "pop culture or Vatican II, but BECAUSE OF YOU," lyric referring to Pope Benedict XVI.

What is true is that he is, and is looking, HAGGARD--understandably.

I think the because of you

I think the because of you really refered to the organization as a whole and not benedict himself.

I'm a "classically' trained

I'm a "classically' trained musician, and at the moment I
am pretty softened up, having read through Schubert's Opus 99,
the B Flat Trio. The second movement is a soul ripper.

This is the first and only one of your many fine satires that
made me sad but little else. I was, I admit, already trying
to snap out of the piece just mentioned.

Mark, you may or may not know that musical notation was originally
invented back around the 8th Century as a means of standardizing
the music sung in church. The Frankish tribes, out of reach
of Rome, went oogah boogah along with their Kyries and whatnot,
and occasional church investigators reported back to Rome this
heretical news. So it was that a very primitive system was
installed that at least showed where a piece went up or down.

It took about 6 more centuries for notation to look all that much
like the present system, but right from the start, even that
pathetic first all but invented the composer, which was not the idea at all.

Music has had a tense go of it with the Catholic Church ever
since. It had a tough go of it today. This was not strictly
a canned "off the shelf effort." Tell your musicians that as
parody they got it right. It was very effective.

Perhaps you do need a Popemobile, yourself. Hope not. Thanks
as usual.

I see that my CAPTCHA is "obscene 1976."
