Gee i maybe mistaken but i seem to remember, that it was a democrat congressman from Texas that was responsible for funneling all the money to the mujaheddin in Afghanistan, Hoping to do to the soviets ,what they and the Chinese did to us when we were involved in Vietnam,,,,,,,Which was to use proxy's to bleed us out,while not being directly involved,,,,,,,many thanks to Charlie Wilson for not looking forward,in his zeal to punish the soviets,,,,
His goal was to bleed the russians and his tools to do that were the afgan people and the US taxpayer,,,unfortunately both groups are still paying the price

Reality is messy, but ignored at great peril. First, the Afghans are reacting exactly as we would had we had been subjected to 8 years of brutal occupation by Afghanistan.
The age of occupation, like slavery, is toast, like it or not. The longer we extend the occupation, the greater the threat to whatever remains of our own Bill of Rights -- not in the neo-con talking points, right? The way out, as even the work of DOD's own U. Chicago lad,Prof. Robert Pape, concludes is to end the occupation, stop killing the people of Afghanistan as well as our jobs and futures.
