Great work! John and Stephanie did an excellent job!
I'm your worse nightmare - a liberal with a gun safe. No, I don't belong to the NRA - you couldn't pay me enough to belong to that facist organization.
I do, however, own many collectable rifles, and several handguns.
Do I worry about people breaking into my house? No. I have an alarm system, a safe - and a revolver.
Let's stop pretending that the argument against "gun control" is anything more than a fundraising effort by the far right and the NRA. Those of us who own guns should have no worry about losing our firearms.
C'mon - do you really think that Obama and the Congress could really take our guns?
It's nice to scare the hell out of us - so that we'll contribute more money to the NRA and far right organizations that promote this crap.
I'll save my money and buy another reloader die and powder!
You know,
one of the great things about being in a place (Canada) where there is a "minimal" gun control (licence to bear arms" that pretty much any whacko can obtain anyway), is that burglars invading a home DON'T have guns either (too expensive), so they just flee if they see someone's there.
Problem solved.
And if that evil "liberal" government of your's (actually Conservative btw) would decide to invade your homes, well you have to remember that those soldiers are not robots (yet), they're the ones pulling the trigger (or not), and if you have guns to "defend" yourselves, the home turf advantage counts for nothing if the ennemy is also on his home turf...
And yes, you can't buy a nuke to "protect" your home, so protecting against the government is pretty much useless.
A government needs to be kept in check by a State of Rights (aka Democracy), not the Fascist spiral you were engaged in the Bush era (giving MORE arbitrary powers to non-elected agencies??)
Someone's "terrorist" is always someone else's "patriot"
I just wish people would start by learning basic notions of history and geography before they assume they know everything...
If that's true then why did Hitler find it so neccesary to ban guns? Why did the USSR that glorious liberal government need to ban guns then?
A government that fears its people WILL always try to take away its guns. Most Americans are not gun owners and even the ones that are are yellow and will cave if Obama bans the 2nd amendment.
Yours is the most reasonable, intelligent comment on gun ownership and gun control I've seen in a long time. Yes, it should be acceptable for people to own guns AND oppose the NRA/right-wing BS.
Having spent lots of time around/or shooting guns with my relatives in Idaho, I've always thought it shouldn't be a given that gun ownership=right-wing NRA. (Although too often it does.)
What I don't get is that from what I see, the Democrats (ie the conservative party) does not seem to want to take away gun rights. The Republicans (ie the whacko right) wants to make a non issue an issue to gain power. If you didn't know, we don't have a liberal party anymore. This country has moved so far to the right that Richard Nixon would be a democrat today (he was for national healthcare). It is all about power and steering dollars to the greedy (military industrial complex, corporations, banks). Just look at the legislation passed from 2001 - 2007. The right creates issues in order grab or maintain power in order to acheive that goal. We are not going to lose gun rights in this country, period. It is a manufactured issue.
For you right wing nut jobs out there Im just going to say this to you in your faces.
Firearms must be banned, only the government should have a monopoly on guns.
The government knows whats best for us. The only reason we are having problems now is because of Bush and the republicans screwing up everything with their tax cuts and frugal spending.
The government knows how to take care of us and give us zero unemployment and homelessness.
Just because a few criminals (Yes folks, only a few criminals have guns when guns are banned. The rightists want us to believe only they have guns thats not true.) Doesn't mean you can have some too.
The reason we have crime is not because of gun control but because of a lack of it and a lack of paying jobs and generous services.
You guys need to stop being paranoid about government and go take some zypaxia and get shock treatments. Only a mental loon would think the government is plotting against us.
Republican frugal spending? What planet did that happen on? I suppose your idea of frugality is dropping trillions to invade a country for no particular reason.
But let's face facts: the government has everything from pop-guns to nuclear bombs. If the government wants to take you out, you're gone. Whatever arsenal you have won't matter. Look at how many guns the Koresh cult had, and how much good it did them.
If you want to be safe from government plotting against you, work to DISarm the government. Then it can start spending its money on things like health care and jobs, things that will actually benefit people.
I don't understand why liberals have a problem with people defending themselves from criminals and tyranny aside from the fact that they want Obama to be dictator. We would not have all these problems that liberals complain about if people stopped letting the state take care of them. The state has failed everytime it has tried to do that. WE need guns to overthrow the government. Unfortunately thats not being done.
Back when the rights to bear arms was written in the Bill of Rights, a typical gun fired one shot and took about 15 seconds to reload if you were skilled, and had limited accuracy. Most people had guns because they honestly needed it for food or protection from the natives they were imposing on. So pretty necessary, if you ask me.
Nowadays, we buy food from the supermarket and hunt for sport. The Indians have been decimated and shoved into their reserves, so no threat there anymore. The typical handgun now can fire automatically or semi-automatically, "solving" around 6-12 "problems" in less than a minute. Rifles on the other hand, have the option of firing 600 rounds per minute (the ak47, a global favorite). what purpose do these guns have nowadays? Hunting? No- unless you count homicide or warfare as hunting.
So, the use of the guns that should by all means be banned to the domestic market (the automatics) is limited really to murder. Its really cute/sad when people think that they will somehow be able to defend themselves against a tyrannical force, like they like to pretend the current administration is. IF somehow the army got possessed by some kind of magical evil hitler ray and decided to come after them...
Do they honestly think their one gun (or collection of guns in their drawers) can take on our massive, nation-conquering armed forces?
I'm not for 100% gun abolishment. Just automatics really. The only really good use I've seen them do lately for citizens is shoot up unarmed students and cops.
I think that back when the second amendment was written the first amendment was written too. We did not have high capacity presses that could print 600 flyers a minute. We did not have TV or radio or Al Gore's Internet. We did not have telephones or email that allow instant communication. It took the post office weeks to deliver a letter from Virginia to Massachusettes. So your argument is pretty much hog wash.
And yes an armed citizenry can preserve liberty. A few Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto (who had not yet been disarmed) with bolt action rifles held off the German war machine for three months. What do you think they could have done if all or most of them had been armed with M1 Garands? Or heaven forbid, Thompson Sub Machine guns.
And then there is the story of the German General who talked with the Swiss general. The German says...”Our army is five times as big as yours! What would stop us from invading!” The Swiss officer says..”All of our soldiers would fire five shots, then go home!”
You don't seem to get that the 2nd amendment though not 100% effective is useful in keeping depsotic government at bay. If an opposing rebel militia had to face overwhelming odds there is a chance they can win. The Partisans in Lithuania and the French resistance in France during WW2 taught us this. As did Mao Tse Tung's army that not only went up against Chinese Nationalists but Japanese imperialism. Then there was Geronimo, The minutemen, ETC. Though they were overun by evil they still managed to give them fits and hinder their efforts. Even ancient examples like Joan of Arc during the 100 year wars and the Luthereans during the 30 years war come to mind.
The bottom line is that an effectively armed citizenry has the potential to withstand invasion or domestic threats. They might not always win but it is effective.
Mous,
I think that you have aligned yourself with the average NRA member. You seem to be under the mistaken impression that a "typical handgun now can fire automatically or semi-automatically". Fully automatic handguns, or long guns for that matter, can only be in the possession of folks who have gone through major hoops and spent lots of money. Automatic weapons are essentially illegal and are for all intents and purposes, only carried by the military, police and drug dealers. I haven't noticed the NRA or Gun Owners of America pushing to legalize fully automatic weapons. They should, but it's not yet politically feasible.
If you think that an armed citizenry can't take on the US military, have you noticed how the Taliban is ripping us up in Afghanistan? Japan decided not to invade our mainland in WWII because they feared our armed citizenry, and rightly so. We would have cut them to ribbons. If we ever got to the point of overthrowing domestic tyrrany, probably much of the military would shed their uniforms and join the rebellion. One more: the AK-47s you see in the USA are semi-autos shooting a round that is less potent than the average hunting rifle.
The AK 47 regardless is potent. Long rifles of WWI that made it to WWII were overkill as warfare was within 150 yards which is plenty lethal for an assault rifle round.
Please do not make them sound like BB guns. Semi auto rifles can be turned in to fully automatic with ease. See a gunsmith and BAM. The US military went to 3 round bursts and dropped full auto for a reason. Plus PLEASE to not make is sound that because they are semi auto assault rifles they are again no potent. I spent 4 years in the US army I would get hit on the head for every night fire exercise and told to get it off auto when I had it on semi the entire time. Semi fires fast enough that one does not need to spray and pray.
And how many gun dealers own fully autos? How many gun dealers in the US sell out of the trunk of their cars? Not all criminals steal their weapons.
Japan never had the logistics to supply troops in the US. With the loss of the Battle of Midway that settled it about landing on the mainland. Not only Midway though but she would have to take Hawaii and would not be able to supply troops from Midway if Hawaii remained in US hands. She did land in Alaska btw and Japan was there for quite a while.
And the Taliban an armed Citizenry? They were the govt. They were the tyrannical govt as well but hey yeah for guns right.
Fully automatics were a serious issue in the 20s and 30s and hence why they were banned.
I understand and I'm all for people having the right to have guns. I just don't understand the argument of needing it to protect yourself against criminals. I don't understand it because on the news the neighborhoods that want to keep their guns are NOT the neighborhoods that where gun control is an issue. The neighborhoods that seem to show up in the news due to gun violence are the neighborhoods that want more control. In other words, where their IS a need to protect yourself against people with guns they want guns off the streets and where their ISN't a need to have gun control they want guns to protect themselves. On top of that, in those neighborhoods where guns are not as much an issue when it comes to violence, their young children and teens are shooting each other and themselves (on accident) due to curiosity.
Like I said I don't want there to be tyrannical control over guns, I just don't understand the whole "protection of my family" argument since it doesn't match reality.
I refer you to the scholarship of Professor John Lott.
Jurisdictions where there is a call for gun control are usually areas where there is already gun control. (Sometimes, it is due simply to "economic" gun control; that is, not being able to afford the firearm, a proper training course, and the normal accessories.)
Firearms in the possession of law-abiding citizens, as demonstrated in Dr. Lott's work, are a very effective deterrent of crime by those who are not law abiding citizens. If you are a criminal, which neighborhood are you going to prey upon?
You finally hit a nerve Mark... GO FOR IT!! We need more dogboy and mr. dan, please continue as long as you get more and more nutty responses. The gun paranoia needs to end, and this looks like an excellent way to brush the idiocy aside with simple sarcasm. How about an animated gun singing "they're coming to take me away, ha-ha, hee-hee..." (remember that oldie but goodie?).
Its paranoia to be concerned that the government might take your liberty and impose a dictatorship? Then I guess all the people that warned us about Stalin and Hitler are nuts too. I guess the founding fathers were paranoid then for being against King George.
Just wait till Obama takes away our liberty, and guns then you'll regret what you have typed. You'll wish you had an ar15 the day you are marched into the gulags
I'll see your poorly-trained schmuck with an AR-15 and raise you a squad of Army soldiers armed with their equivalent and higher (who know much better what to do with them), squad automatic weapons, explosives, and armor support. People who think a loon with a automatic weapon is a threat to anyone but their family and immediate community doesn't understand actual military power. If oppression comes, your shoulder arms aren't going to mean squat.
Firearms refresher course (I understand that these are a bunch of false arguments, but I understand where this poster is coming from. I just don't understand every statement.)
a. An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
------My response: No argument with that! I would just add that choosing to be armed or not is a citizen. An untrained armed man is a danger to even the things he's trying to protect.
b. A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
------My response: No argument with that!
c. Smith & Wesson: The original point and click interface.
------My response: So.....how is this relevant?
d. Gun control is not about guns; it's about control.
------My response: No argument with that!
e. If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?
------My response: No argument with that! And my answer is YES!!! I believe they are a lot safer, anyway, and definitely more fun to watch.
f. If guns cause crime, then pencils cause misspelled words.
------My response: No argument with that! That's funny!
g. Free men do not ask permission to bear arms.
------My response: No argument with that!
h. If you don't know your rights you don't have any.
------My response: No argument with that! What does this have to do with having the right to own a gun?
i. Those who trade liberty for security have neither.
------My response: I like this saying. In principle I would agree, but it assumes that people are good and are in their right mind. They are not and so liberty with no security is asking for anarchy. AND in effect, are you not defending the security to bear arms?
j. The United States Constitution ) 1791. All Rights Reserved.
------My response: No argument with that!
k. What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand ?
------My response: No argument with that! I'm with you 100% on this.
l. The Second Amendment is in place in case they ignore the others.
------My response: If/When that happens, I'm moving out of this country. That would mean that anarchy has come and that every individual has determined their own personal laws. Again, I don't believe that people are naturally good and that what law they come up with will coincide with the law I might decide to follow. And if we all become our own personal cop...I just don't think that is the sort of freedom and liberty we all have in mind.
m. 64,999,987 firearms owners killed no one yesterday.
------My response: Are you sure about that?
n. Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Politicians.
------My response: No argument with that!
o. Know guns, know peace and safety. No guns, no peace nor safety.
------My response: Not according to the people who have experienced gun violence and they have plenty of guns everywhere in their neighborhoods. AND not according to the people who's children were shot due to curiosity.
p. You don't shoot to kill; you shoot to stay alive.
------My response: No argument with that!
q. 911 - government sponsored Dial a Prayer.
------My response: So will a gun also put out fires and give medical attention?
r. Assault is a behavior, not a device.
------My response: No argument with that! In fact this is the best statement you've said!
s. Criminals love gun control - it makes their jobs safer.
------My response: No argument with that! I agree 100%
t. If Guns cause Crime, then Matches cause Arson.
------My response: No argument with that!mainestategop
u. Only a government that is afraid of it's citizens try to control them.
------My response: Waite a minute, a government run by the people for the people, is afraid of the people? Is that the argument here for the reason for gun control? If that's what your saying than what you are saying is America as we know it is going to fail soon because "a house divided against itself cannot stand."
v. You only have the rights you are willing to fight for.
------My response: No argument with that! That deserves an AMAN!
w. Enforce the "gun control laws" we have, don't make more.
------My response: No argument with that! I agree with this completely.
x. When you remove the people's right to bear arms, you create slaves.
------My response: You have no idea what a slave is....do you.
y. The American Revolution would never have happened with Gun Control.
------My response: No argument with that!
z. "...a government by the people, for the people..."
At the time the 2nd amendment was written people still had faith and fear in God. They were responsible spiritual people. We've left that behind and now we ARE in anarchy. The inmates are running the assylum and killing people because law abiding citizens are not allowed to arm themselves for protection.
------------------------------------------------------------
The biggest cause of trouble in the world today is that the stupid people are so sure about things and the intelligent folks are so full of doubts.
I have heard so many times the argument that you need a gun for when you get a burglar in your house, especially coming from from the pro-gun educated crowd. (Ah, self-defense, what an intrinsic right of the democracy.) Yet, these educated supporters of gun ownership fail to iterate their logic just one more step: if they have a gun in their house, the burglar will bring an assault rifle, if they got an assault rifle, the burglar will have a missile launcher ... However, it is not unexpected to that some of the "educated" think that, of course, they are the only ones "educated". How about educating your fears, ladies and gentlemen?
mous,
What you are saying is absolute nonsense. I, along with around 70 million other Americans have guns in my home and have yet to confront a bulglar with an assault rifle or missile launcher. When the disadvantaged meth addict breaks into my home he/she will have no idea if and how I am armed. If he/she is armed, it will likely be a cheap semi-auto pistol that he/she has never fired before.
I think that you need to do some "educating" yourself. Lecturing gunowners after making a ridiculous and uninformed statement seems a bit silly to me.
Dearest non/gun idiot:
Put a sign up by your front door that says that you abhor guns and gun owners and are totally unarmed and defenseless. I dare you!
Actually people in the present day could easily be just as educated, providing we as a people take back the powers that the federal oligarchy has so easily grifted us of.
@Video
I have heard that you need to exaggerate things a bit to get peoples attention.. but at least try to stick to commonsense.
Laws to protect us from guns? Has anyone on this comment section ever seen a gun hop up and shoot someone? No you haven't.
Have people who were uneducated about guns shot other people and themselves? Yes. Have criminals shot defenseless unarmed people? again yes.
I just finished reading Chris Birds 5th edition "The Concealed Handgun manual: how to choose, carry, and shoot a gun in self defense." For someone like me, it was very educating and enlightening. It showed both sides of the coin as far as gun ownership goes. And I cannot recommend it enough.
Has anyone ever rode on a greyhound bus? Probably yes at least once. If you haven't I can tell you it sucks ass.. its like being crammed into a can.. with sardines. Public transportation while a great idea.. will end up like a government run school bathroom.. Dirty, nasty, and it will suck.
Don't get me wrong. I understand the idea behind it. I really do. And it's a great idea, but that's all its going to be. (Unless who ever is in charge of it can find a way to keep the riff raff (hoodlums, gang bangers) off, so that. 1 The transportation stays in good shape, both on the inside as well as outside. 2. Its not cramped. 3. It actually breaks even expense wise.4. The people who are not going to use it, should not have to pay for it through taxes.
If they can figure those things out then go for it.
As far as infrastructure goes.. I am just curious why there is no slush fund for these bridges.. I mean, after they were built, they were going to need to be maintained and even replaced later on down the line. Did no one have the fore site in government to set aside some money specifically for these expenses. I bet they did, and they probably spent it on something else. And that's how goes.
I actually have no qualms about them spending money on roadways.. that's a decent thing to spend money on.
I think the biggest reason most people are against this is because, social security, medicare, Medicaid it's going bankrupt, and now its going to do it quicker than expected due to the massive job losses. And now here the government who can't even mind its own business correctly is going and minding the business of others.. who are actually competent and getting things done.
To give a example.. its like someone who constantly gets hurt on the job due to there stupidity teaching the rest of their co-workers about safety.. it doesn't add up or make sense.
Of course this is just my perspective/opinion/experience.
Anyways, to finish off. Kudos for the hard work you put into the video Mr.MF.
Ahhh, Greyhound was the wrong example. It is a private corporation, not public.
And it is because we used Social Security money to pay for PRIVATE military, called Blackwater without bids, that it is in trouble at all. But it is not going bankrupt. If you think so, give me your Medicare card, and I'll give you my $15,000 per year insurance policy.

Dan and Dogboy = deceitful propaganda.
It is unfortunate that, in your latest knee-jerk anti-rights to bear arms cartoon you again (as you have before) ignore the simple facts of the matter (the same way the reactionary nuts you so appropriately lampoon ignore the facts concerning the need for universal health care by the government, the lies told to promote mass murderious war, the scam that is our "financial system", and other issues you, Mark, got right, or at least partly right).
FACT: States which allow easy ownership by private citizens of guns of all sorts... and those that make it easy for a citizen to carry a concealed weapon... have consistently significantly LOWER rates of violent gun crime than those that pose massive restrictions. This is a fact you conveniently refuse to present or recognize in the deceitful propaganda that are your anti-gun cartoons.
JUST the fact that a cause is supported by right wing nut cases doesn't NECESSARILY make it invalid or a bad one.
I'm a leftist (rather to the left of you, Mark) and I strongly support the right of citizens to own pretty near any weapon they want for self defense, target practice, or their own entertainment. I'd draw the line at nuclear bombs, ground to air missiles, and tank-piercing high power weapons, but pretty much anything else (including that bug-a-boo of brain dead liberals, the "assault rifle") should be accessible to all citizens who want them.
The FACTS support the notion that it's NOT ease of ownership that causes problems with gun violence. It's the culture, the economy, and the social system.
I own a dozen hand guns (I like the sport of target practice) and keep one handy in the house near my bed. Once I encountered an intruder (a burglar) in my bedroom. Which is better: Pointing a loaded gun at an armed intruder, or trying to call 911 as that intruder reaches for his gun? You tell me.
Or do you support the hysterical extremes, such as the NY City model (I've a residence there, as well as in California) that pretty near prevent (economically, and bureaucratically) law-abiding citizens from even keeping a weapon in their home?
I think that was a little bit too much. I support health care reform and high-speed rail but the animation was disgusting. I like to watch Fiore's animation with my kids (raising the next generation leftist!)but that was something I could not let them see. Please tone it down a bit? Thanks.
It's a bit more 'Itchy and Scratchy' than most. :P
Curiously, 'Dogboy' has that well-intentioned-but-oblivious puppyish quality to him, common among anti-gun activists.
It's that puppy trifecta of i) not knowing why anyone would want to own a gun, ii) believing that lawlessness can somehow be curtailed by legislating away the tools needed to manifest it, and iii) being completely oblivious to the greater consequences of tight arms restrictions, or, for that matter, oblivious as to why bearing arms is a constitutional right in the first place.
Besides, if Mr. Fiore's portrayal of Mr. Dan as the archetypical gun-totin' loony is at all accurate, most of them will have shot off their faces within five years from now anyway. Problem solved.
The Revolutionary War began with the British attempting to sieze the colonists' weapons. And it wasn't because they were trying to keep us from hunting. Tyrants always try to disarm citizens in order to maintain and expand on absolute control of the citizen. Look at any truly brutal dictator and you will find severe and brutal gun bans/control laws. Lockstep liberals accept idiocy like Fiore's looney tune as true dogma without doing anything to educate themselves on the issues. Tying gun control and "gun crazy" to the socialized medicine issue is a cheap diversionary trick. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not welfare, socialized medicine and a guaranteed comfy life. I would bet that Mr. Dan works for a living and actually produces something. Dogboy should have been a bleating sheep.
If you honestly believe that it is redneckish and boorish to have the means to defend yourself, your family and friends, are you willing to put up a yard sign stating that you are unarmed and totally defenseless? If so, maybe you can talk the police into giving you 24 hour protection. You should be entitled to that, right?
"Look at any truly brutal dictator and you will find severe and brutal gun bans/control laws. "... Yeah, those brutal dictatorships like France, UK, Germany, and just about any other modern date Democracy, euh no, dictatorship in the world.
Open up your eyes man, travel around the world and see it can be done. That it is being done everywhere else in the world.
And you want to know the funny bit? All these 'crazy gunless countries' all over the world have far-far-far lower crime rates than the US of Bloody A. And if you DO get shot or injured over there (but most people just get sick or something everyday-ish like that) they even have AFFORDABLE healthcare to help you recover.
By the way...dictatorship vs. democracy...shall we refer to how GW Bush won his ellections again...ouch no, we better don't...
Republic.. What about the Republic don't you understand, or not want to since it means the death of Empire, Oligarchs, Sultans, Potentates and other "Leaders" who will not follow the best chance for humanity of this rock we call earth? Understand that the United States of America had a shot. "Literally" because the damned british government and their moneyed controllers under despotic and dictatorial rulers simply would not could not allow for some upstarts to show the rest of the people of the world a far better way of doing things.
The Crown paid for an expense war that was largely fought in North America. This paved the way for future Americans to move west and not worry about France anymore. Silly old england thought well gee since MOST of the war was fought around the American colonists and was done to protect not just the crowns interests but the colonists interests that it thought some crazy scheme like maybe we Americans should pay for it.
Boy were they wrong. We as well were smugglers and like to outrun the British ships etc. It is the prime reason why we loved Schooners. Ironically it is our smuggling actions that caused the Tea Act in the first place which FAR TOO MANY Americans were asleep that day in class to know the Tea Act was not about raising taxes. It gave the company we almost bankrupt by our smuggling activities an unfair competitive advantage over wholesalers and retailers of tea. East Indian Company Tea was duty free and could be sold directly to us. The Crown thought we would be happy about it. But US Big Business did not like it so Tea was dumped overboard from British ships in Boston after a dumbass stubborn governor left them in the harbor too long. The act was in defiance to corporatism. Taxation without representation was a slogan from a decade earlier and about Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Townshend Act which did raise taxes. The objection to those Acts were not that we had to pay a tax but that we had no one in Parliament to speak on our behalf and vote. We have that now but we still bitch. Colonists at the time had largely been governing themselves and raising taxes on themselves as well.
Great Britain ordered the colonists to pay for the tea and they refused. The harbor was shut down and acts that became known as intolerable acts were enacted. New England had her charter repealed and she became under direct Crown control. This is what actually sparked the Revolution as other colonies saw that if the Crown can revoke the New England charter it can theirs too.
If one is going to own a gun at least know what history is and not just some ignorant flap about freedom while holding a boom stick in the air. We have enough dumbasses with drivers licenses we really do not need more dumbasses with guns. This country was not really designed for the little guy in mind or Miranda Rights would had been from the inception. It was largely created so our colonial elite could work freely from Great Britain elite. We like to rose tint far too much and look back at the past with wide eyes as if it were some utopia and paved with gold. That last paragraph is a general statement and not aimed at the person this was in reply to.
France UK ETC are quickly losing their freedom just as fast and their violent crime rates are rapidly increasing. UK is losing its magna carta while the Us is losing its bill of rights.
fewer people in the US own guns. Most of them would willingly give them up if the cops knocked on their door. Obama is already reving up for more attacks against the constitution. His AG has even called defenders of the constitution and veterans terrorists. Proof that a nation with fewer guns has less freedom.
Oh pleeze. Take your guns and just form your own state where you all can live happily with your guns and violence. Violence exists BECAUSE of the damned guns.
Are you honestly trying to say guns causes violence? So i guess the world was one great utopia before guns were invented right? no wars, dictators, etc. wow what an uneducated man you must be.
Ahem.. Actually gun violence or violence exists at all due to a lack of a classical education system, the understanding one has to learn about one's place in society and the sheep we have become when something bad happens it's no wonder you'd like to live in an Orwellian society. A+++ to you then and count yourself as no longer an American!
And yes i'll include my name as i'm not afraid to say. Adrian Guillory of Louisville Kentucky, Former Pvt in the US Army "regular" 88Mikes!

one of the great things about being in a place (Canada) where there is a "minimal" gun control (licence to bear arms" that pretty much any whacko can obtain anyway), is that burglars invading a home DON'T have guns either (too expensive), so they just flee if they see someone's there.
And if that evil "liberal"
And if that evil "liberal" government of your's (actually Conservative btw) would decide to invade your homes, well you have to remember that those soldiers are not robots (yet), they're the ones pulling the trigger (or not), and if you have guns to "defend" yourselves, the home turf advantage counts for nothing if the ennemy is also on his home turf...
Yours is the most
Yours is the most reasonable, intelligent comment on gun ownership and gun control I've seen in a long time.
Thanks,
-Mark
What I don't get is that
What I don't get is that from what I see, the Democrats (ie the conservative party) does not seem to want to take away gun rights.
For you right wing nut jobs
Republican frugal spending? What planet did that happen on? I suppose your idea of frugality is dropping trillions to invade a country for no particular reason.
But let's face facts: the government has everything from pop-guns to nuclear bombs. If the government wants to take you out, you're gone. Whatever arsenal you have won't matter. Look at how many guns the Koresh cult had, and how much good it did them.
If you want to be safe from government plotting against you, work to DISarm the government. Then it can start spending its money on things like health care and jobs, things that will actually benefit people.
I don't understand why
I don't understand why liberals have a problem with people defending themselves from criminals and tyranny aside from the fact that they want Obama to be dictator. We would not have all these problems that liberals complain about if people stopped letting the state take care of them. The state has failed everytime it has tried to do that. WE need guns to overthrow the government. Unfortunately thats not being done.
Back when the rights to bear
I think that back when the
I think that back when the second amendment was written the first amendment was written too.
You don't seem to get that
You don't seem to get that the 2nd amendment though not 100% effective is useful in keeping depsotic government at bay.
Mous, I think that you have
Mous,
I think that you have aligned yourself with the average NRA member.
The AK 47 regardless is
The AK 47 regardless is potent.
I understand and I'm all for
I understand and I'm all for people having the right to have guns.
I refer you to the
I refer you to the scholarship of Professor John Lott.

Its paranoia to be concerned
Its paranoia to be concerned that the government might take your liberty and impose a dictatorship? Then I guess all the people that warned us about Stalin and Hitler are nuts too. I guess the founding fathers were paranoid then for being against King George.
Just wait till Obama takes away our liberty, and guns then you'll regret what you have typed. You'll wish you had an ar15 the day you are marched into the gulags
I'll see your poorly-trained
I'll see your poorly-trained schmuck with an AR-15 and raise you a squad of Army soldiers armed with their equivalent and higher (who know much better what to do with them), squad automatic weapons, explosives, and armor support. People who think a loon with a automatic weapon is a threat to anyone but their family and immediate community doesn't understand actual military power. If oppression comes, your shoulder arms aren't going to mean squat.

At the time the 2nd amendment was written people still had faith and fear in God. They were responsible spiritual people. We've left that behind and now we ARE in anarchy. The inmates are running the assylum and killing people because law abiding citizens are not allowed to arm themselves for protection.
Most of the people who die
Most of the people who die to firearms are shot by legally-owned weapons.

Wrong again, most firearm crimes are by illegally owned weapons. Criminals can get them off the street easier than through licensed sellers.

I have heard so many times
I have heard so many times the argument that you need a gun for when you get a burglar in your house, especially coming from from the pro-gun educated crowd. (Ah, self-defense, what an intrinsic right of the democracy.) Yet, these educated supporters of gun ownership fail to iterate their logic just one more step: if they have a gun in their house, the burglar will bring an assault rifle, if they got an assault rifle, the burglar will have a missile launcher ... However, it is not unexpected to that some of the "educated" think that, of course, they are the only ones "educated". How about educating your fears, ladies and gentlemen?
mous, What you are saying is
mous,
What you are saying is absolute nonsense.

@Video
Ahhh, Greyhound was the
Ahhh, Greyhound was the wrong example.
Awesome. Best cartoon you've
Awesome. Best cartoon you've done in a while, Mark.
Dan and Dogboy = deceitful

I think that was a little
I think that was a little bit too much. I support health care reform and high-speed rail but the animation was disgusting. I like to watch Fiore's animation with my kids (raising the next generation leftist!)but that was something I could not let them see. Please tone it down a bit? Thanks.
It's a bit more 'Itchy and
It's a bit more 'Itchy and Scratchy' than most.
The Revolutionary War began
"Look at any truly brutal
Republic.. What about the
The Crown paid for an
The Crown paid for an expense war that was largely fought in North America.
France UK ETC are quickly

Are you honestly trying to
Are you honestly trying to say guns causes violence? So i guess the world was one great utopia before guns were invented right? no wars, dictators, etc. wow what an uneducated man you must be.
Ahem.. Actually gun violence
