This guy obviously knows

This guy obviously knows beans about the US military. Being an OIF II vet, I can go to any University of Wisconsin college and have 100% of my tuition payed for. Considering his anti-Semitic, anti-American style (which is very similar to Iranian propaganda cartoons), I can't say that I'm surprised. At least he makes it clear whose side he's on.

I am getting $1100 a month,

I am getting $1100 a month, not $800, for full time. Some of you need to get your facts straight. Fortunately, I live in Colorado, where the legislature every year sets aside money for college students. With the state stipend and the GI Bill, my college is paid for until the GI Bill runs out. It'll still be paid for when I transfer to a University.

Well Bush just signed a new

Well Bush just signed a new GI Bill with all kinds of crazy good benefeits, so this cartoon is now out of date and obsolete.

he was opposed to it because

he was opposed to it because it cost too much. he only signed it because it passed the house and senate by veto proof margins. Republicans and Democrats both voted for it.

ROFL! Great Mark! ROFL! I

ROFL! Great Mark!

ROFL! I love that bit about Dubya's sacrifice to stop cutting his fingernails and giving up his nuts on his hot fudge sundaes. Awesome, Mark!

It's so true how fuckingly stupid the American sheeple are to blindly swallow the bull$hit and propaganda about "Supporting The Troops". How truly, shockingly, fuckingly stupid most Americans are.

So, how do these "good" Americans "support the troops"? They buy a lot of flags and flaglike accessories and put yellow magnetic ribbon stickers on their pickup trucks and SUVs. Yee hah! I'm patriotic. I love my god, my guns and my gasoline. I support the troops by shopping. I'm a real American. Not like those none-flag lapel pin wearing Islamic jihadists that don't put their hand over their heart during the National Anthem -- nevermind that it isn't required to do so.

By the way, isn't true patriotism what you have on the inside and practice privately and modestly and not what you do publicly as some sort of big showoff or what you wear as jewelry to tell everybody, "Hey! Look at me everybody! I'm a real American because I adorn myself, my car and my front yard in U.S. flags and yellow ribbons. Therefore, I know what a true American stands for. The Bill of Rights? What's that? I don't know anything about no Bill of the Wrights. I just know I like flags and bombing people that don't have ours. It makes me feel better about myself knowing I'm the top dog and can piss on those below me in the pile."

McSame, er McBush, er McCain't is a real piece of $hit and I hope he suffers the biggest defeat in any election for president in U.S. history. This turncoat, this treacherous, malignant, little man that hugs Dubya around the ribcage (because shrimpy's arms there, don't go over his shoulders) even after Dubya's character assassination during the 2000 campaign, shows us that McCain't has no real character or integrity. He's a guy that will say and do anything to get elected. A real cutthroat politician -- just like Dubya is and Swillary Rodham Clinton is!

Wow... a lot of bitchin and

Wow... a lot of bitchin and no solution. So you're saying that hiding your patriotism is more patriotic? How pathetic of an argument is that? McCain served 23 years in the Navy you douchebag. Bill Clinton dodged the military and Obama hasn't a clue about what it takes to run this country, though he's plenty arrogant about it. Hillary and Barrack both have rolled the pork barrel projects on in though McCain hasn't asked for a single dollar's worth in over 12 years of the Senate.

Get your facts straight before you taint the truth. The President is the Commander in Chief. I'll be damned if I'm gonna support someone who won't show respect for what others have died for. Obama is a liberal rascist who's willing to invite terrorist leaders into negotiations. Yeah...that's what we need. A President willing to become the first idiot to be killed in negotiations. Brilliant.

By the way, TRUE patriotism is what is REVEALED by what's going on inside. The people who put their lives on the line. That's the revealed patriotism of someone. Anybody can secretly say they are patriotic. But if it never forces them to do anything, their patriotism is as good as dead.

Don't forget that many companies selling patriotic merchandise are donating portions of the profits to the troops. You're so friggin ignorant!

Pres Bush was pretty much

Pres Bush was pretty much absent during his tour. VP Cheney ducked the war in Vietnam entirely. Ii don't give either of them any credit for military service.

Yeah GW Bushwhacker is the

Yeah GW Bushwhacker is the Commander in Chief just like Hitler was the Nazi leader. They had a lot in common besides just wanting to be Dictator in Chief, genocidal activities, lust for war and disregard for reality. Hmmm, GOD may have talked to Hitler also.

"By the way, TRUE patriotism is what is REVEALED by what's going on inside. The people who put their lives on the line. That's the revealed patriotism of someone. Anybody can secretly say they are patriotic. But if it never forces them to do anything, their patriotism is as good as dead."

I don't think you know what patriotism is! John Kerry served his country but you'd probably call him a traitor. G. Bush was AWOL but you revere him. Get a life, traitor.

Sure, don't complain.

Sure, don't complain. Unfortunately complaining is the only way things get done. Taking a stand against a completely corrupt and unpatriotic administration (who by the way cares nothing about us), is truly patriotic. We care about the future of America, and realize she is in trouble. If you just stand by and play the blind man, you are truly unpatriotic. And please don’t talk to me about putting my life on the line; I’ve probably served more years than you are old. Its time for a change.

Two points: One, what

Two points: One, what fantasy world do you live in that you can claim that ANY congress person has not given money for some project? Also, so called pork spending is less than 1% of the national budget annually. True fiscal responsibility would be paying less imperialist youths to live out their sick fantasies on the federal government’s dime.
Two, Why, in America, do we call the dangerous scourge of humanity Nationalism "Patriotism?" All major conflicts in the last 300 years have at least used Nationalism as a means of justifying their ends. If not as the root cause for the blood shed. I.e., every war the US has fought since its inspection, the Napoleonic Wars, the revolutions in third world nations through out the 20th century. Nationalism is an intellectual evil. Yet in the United States, a country that supposedly stands for freedom, it is seemingly required of all individuals under the euphemism "patriotism." That is a very scary thing and a sign we are slipping into fascism.

Mark, I noted your clever use of quotes from GWB's other speeches...especially the poignant quote of the sacrifice he's made to stay off the links...but not really. lol! Seems the pResident was seen golfing (and a photograph was taken) a couple of times after he'd announced not playing golf after the Brazilian diplomat was killed. What a guy. :D

Oops! I forgot to sign my earlier comment about the young man in the 'Guard in Utah.

Mark ...it's very

Mark ...it's very interesting you produced an animation on this topic. Just last weekend I met a young man whose mother told me, and he confirms, that after serving 5 years in the military, including a tour in Iraq, he is now serving in the National Guard on weekends in Utah for another 12 months(?) or so and then will receive FULL tuition for his college education, including books and housing allowance. All this when his committment to military service is completed in about 6 to 12 months....I'm not sure which it is, but it sounds like a real good deal if the government keeps its agreement.

Is this a promotional promise made that may not be fulfilled? What is going on? Does anyone know?

I'd hate to see more young men and women sign up for the military in order to receive a promise of benefits, a promise the government has no intention of keeping.

Full tuition scholarships, whether for scholastic achievement or athletics, generally do not include the cost of books nor housing. Clearly the military should be different. After serving the nation, our young veterans deserve to become educated with as much assistance in obtaining a college education as possible from the government it served.

Mark, another great cartoon - as always. Will there come a time when these cartoons can be embedded elsewhere?
Thanks!

I like your cartoons Mike

I like your cartoons Mike and even if I don't agree with them I've always seen your point and thought they were funny but not this one however.

The current GI bill, especially combined with the GI bill the State of Texas gives (which is where I live) basically pays for all room, board, books, and tuition. Given you can't afford an Ivy league school, but any public school is easily doable and I can name 20 ex military that are easily doing it in my area right now and without working!

Don't get me wrong I love our troops and think there are areas that need work (their health care being a BIG one) but I have to agree with Bush and McCain on this one. They should have the opportunity to go to college and get a degree but not a free ride to Harvard.

Well I got out after 5 years

Well I got out after 5 years of service in the Marines, and I will say as far as getting more money for the longer you stay in is silly. The odds of losing life and limb is the same for some one who does 20. Either way the current GI-Bill doesn't really do anything. Mine ran about half way through college, at which point I had just enough money from work to pay my mortgage and support my family. So no more money for college. At which point I had to stop going to college and move back home and work retail... no other option, and yes I'm talking about just a normal state college. Got tired of that and re-uped. Funny thing is I was still planing on re-uping just as an Officer once I had the degree. Guess they don't want educated Marine and Soldiers. Plus with Texas, you have to have been a resident of Texas and enlisted from there to be eligible for the extra money. You can't just move there. Already checked into it.

(as a favor for mark) Why

(as a favor for mark)
Why would you agree with Bush on this one? Bush is a man who never needed help to go to college. Bush is a man who did everything he could to avoid his duty as a "patriot". Bush is the last man I would ever have wanted to call my Commander in Chief.
Texas seems to be doing a great job, by the way. I applaud their respectful efforts for their servicemen. However, the rest of the country is not quite as easy on the wallet as TX. My hometown, for one, is not so affordable. The monthly GI Bill stipend I receive (which is going to dry up before my schooling is even half over) covers food and rent. The rest of my needs are met by my income from work. You may say that I chose to live here, well, that's true. But don't you think that as a veteran I should have the right to return to my hometown without barely scraping by each month? I don't need an Ivy League education, but I think I at least deserve the chance at a respectable degree.
And why on earth would Bush want to veto a revision to the bill? Why would he want to deny better benefits to our troops? Why would YOU want to deny better benefits to the troops you love?
As a final note, I hope that as a Texan you can see through the farce of Bush's down-home facade... the man is a washington insider, a silver-spoon ivy leaguer who affects a cowboy accent in order to fool a nation.

You seem to have taken the

You seem to have taken the Bush/McCain line hook, line and sinker. The goal isn't a "free ride to Harvard," though maybe it should be-- the goal is to afford even a state school! Good for Texas if they make up the current GI Bill gaps, but if we truly "Support Our Troops," this should be a national effort.

The current GI Bill pays veterans about $800 bucks a month for college. (After he or she pays in $1200?!) Try going to college on $800, let alone rent an apartment or buy books. Again, good for Texas if they make up the rest, but there are 50 states, and we should fully-fund a decent GI Bill like we did after WWII.

(Not Mike :-)

My apologies Mark :-) I

My apologies Mark :-)

I haven't taken the Bush/McCain like hook and sinker. After reading your post (and a few others on here) I asked one of the guys I was referring to above and this is basically what he told me.

"After 4 years in the Marine Crop, I had the GI bill of 60K (which I'm not sure if that’s total or what was set aside as well since he did mention having to "pay in") Texas veterans qualify for up to an additional 1000 per month which gives me about 2,500k per month".

Considering I lived on less than 1500/month working two jobs while going to school and paying tuition (at a state school), its better than I had.

Anyway, when I was writing the above post I figured it was a mistake and some would take it the wrong way. Of course "more would be better" McCain was proposing a tiered system to where you get more money for more time served. That’s better than the "low ball blank check" that we have now. With the Democratic option, today you may have enough to pay for a state school but would you 4 years from now when your service ends? Not all colleges are created equal either. In my home town you can go to a state school for about 2,500 a semester but if you wanted to go to The University of Texas or Texas A&M, it will cost you closer to 5,000. With the McCain plan, if you want to go to a private school (and have it paid for by the Government) that could be a possibility or if college expense went up, just stay another year. If you are “ok” with a smaller state school, get out sooner. The point it will give the service man options which the democratic plan doesn’t. My other point was not all "problems" should be put right at the federal government's door step. The individual states have a responsibility (and programs)too but many seem to forget or ignore that.

Exactly, Mark. I live in

Exactly, Mark. I live in Texas and one of my candidates running for Senate is Rick Noriega. Texas does not make up the dividends and I would like to see documentation instead of someone's wishful thinking that "enough" is paid for for these supposed 20 vets, because a few of his friends say they are doing OK by word of mouth. If everyone is doing so great here, why are these Texas veterans speaking out and these are REAL VETERANS that I will link to:

http://blog.ricknoriega.com/?p=29

Alex Horton, an Iraq veteran from Austin, who will soon be using GI Bill benefits said, “The G.I. Bill enjoys broad support on both sides of the aisle, but unfortunately Senator Cornyn is fighting tooth and nail against giving adequate benefits to our troops and veterans, using it as a wedge in partisan politics. He needs to lead by example and get his name on a bill our veterans desperately need. As an Iraq War veteran, I’ll be attending school in the fall under one G.I. Bill or another. My future has two paths: one is riddled with tuition debt and juggling a full time job with school, and the other is a path paved by benefits earned by my service to this country. Veteran students should not have to make a decision between food and school, and if Senator Cornyn makes the right decision to support this bill, we won’t have to.”

Brandon Friedman, an Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran from Dallas, and Vice Chairman of VoteVets.org said, “I began using the GI Bill less than a year after I returned from Iraq. Unfortunately, the amount of money it provided wasn’t enough for me to live and go to school at the same time. If I hadn’t found another source of income, I wouldn’t have been able to complete my program. And to me, that’s not what the GI Bill is supposed to be about. After serving in combat, veterans shouldn’t be placed in a position where they have to choose between going to school and paying the rent. That was never the intention of the original bill. Senator Cornyn needs to follow the lead of so many of his colleagues from both sides, who are doing the right thing to support our troops and veterans by voting for this bill.”

Yeah it's time for some people in my state to get out of la la land and stop buying the BS John Cornyn who is on his way out, is peddling about how great veterans supposedly have it with the falling dollar in this new disaster capitalism economy. I know it's fun for people to dream and pretend like everything is OK, but choosing to have to pay the rent or go to school does not equate to any education, much less Harvard. What a ridiculous unrealistic statement. It's time to wake up and hoepfully my fellow Texans will for these veterans have. here's their message to John Cornyn:

Thank you for your fine work, Mark. This one was one of your best.
