So very "on the money". LOL!!!
In what will surely go down as the biggest scam since Teapot Dome, Bush, Cheney and Friends have systematically looted the treasury and blocked all attempts to curtail or even examine their activities. All while the vast number of Americans run around with their heads tucked neatly between their legs. Woe be unto anyone who points out that THEY are the one's wearing no clothes; I've even heard "left-wing commie" bandied about at AOL's Political Machine. It's a machine alright, with the robots to match.
Anyway, I truly believe that every member of Congress and their immediate families (like Diane Feinstein) need to open their stock portfolios to scrutiny, so as to see just how deeply THEY were complicitous in this humongous rip-off.
Keep up the good work!!
...how come the 'bad guys' in these toons are always corpulent, rich, old white guys?
I submit that the thin, the lesser-paid, the young, and yes, even the non-white are equally capable of screwing over Americans. Racism! Racism, I cry!
Well, given that cartoonists are self-defeatist by nature and the giant moneybag made me laugh, I'll forgive you. ;)
P.S.
I guess you'll be doing the whole Obama-doing-the-180-on-oil 'Obamerly Hillbillies' thing next week. The media have pretty much abandoned even the pretence of objectivity, and so it's up to the rugged cartoonists to expose Obama for the flip-flopping realist that he is.
As if McCain isn't "flip-flopping" left and right. The whole idea of "flip-flopping" is sensible only to the shallow and ignorant. We all change and adapt as time passes. Do you feel the same way about girls as you did when you were four? Do you think gasoline is still cheap? In your mind are we still at war with Japan? Do you do everything exactly the way you did it ten years ago? From what I understand that's a sign of mental illness, not fortitude or whatever virtue you people think bull-headedness has.
Oh, most of the bad guys are, in fact, corpulent, rich, old, and white. That's who has been raping the United States for the last 8+ years and that's who profits most from war. The kind of pigs that are sucking at the giant pig trough that is "no bid contracts" generally look, act, and sound like Dick Cheney. That's a rich, old, corpulent, white, evil MF if there ever was one. Unfortunately that pig trough is full of my tax dollars and yours, and most of those people won't pay back a cent to the rest of us.
> As if McCain isn't "flip-flopping" left and right. The whole idea of "flip-flopping" is sensible only to the shallow and ignorant.
You... accuse McCain of flip-flopping... half a sentence before pointing out that doing so is shallow and ignorant.
Ah.
> From what I understand that's a sign of mental illness...
If 'anonymous guy' thinks so, surely this must be true!
Point taken. You and Casey? seem to have missed the crux of my post, though: I was commending Sen. Obama on his 'flipping' to a more realist position. Mr. Fiore, talented cartoonist that he is, unfortunately took it upon himself to criticize Sen. McCain for his oil lobby campaign financing and drilling expansion.
"Why, it's terrible!" Cried the forumites, "It will never work. It's big oil screwing us again. Phooey on McCain!"
This, shortly before Obama declared his intentions to do the same thing. I certainly don't fault him for this; he's being realistic. Big oil is not the culprit, as I railed about weeks ago. I do, however, find it curious that an eerie silence has settled over the forumites that once so vociferously wailed out against Big Oil. On this particular issue, I also give McCain credit for being (more) straightforward with his intentions from the outset instead of dithering through half his campaign and then changing his mind.
The forumites also seem to have confused flip-flopping with adaptability. Adaptability implies that change has occurred either in the situation itself or in one's informed perception of the situation. Nothing on the energy front changed between McCain's 'horrid pandering to Big Oil', and Obama's 'reasonable willingness to explore an energy transition period'. McCain acted first; he acted rightly (in this case). Obama deserves credit only for changing his mind.
The 'flopping' part comes if Obama decides to eschew Big Oil again when the political wind so blows. Flopping implies that the situation has changed and then reverted (I suppose it can happen), or a candidate can't make up his mind. 'Can't make up his mind' typically means won't make up his mind, since he's playing politics. And 'playing politics' typically means that his perception of the situation follows public opinion rather than economic reality. And you'll excuse me if I point out how dire the (U.S. especially) economic reality is, and how few people seem to know about it.
So laugh it up at 'Hillbilly McCain'. He obviously doesn't care what you think, and neither will any of the 'undecided' voters if it becomes too obvious that you'll support whatever Obama supports and denounce whatever McCain supports, regardless of what those things might be. You guys can win this election if you don't screw it up (as you seem rather eager to do).
And you might want to tone down the 'shallow and ignorant' rhetoric. Mr. Fiore has accused the Dems of flip-flopping in many of his fine toons.

P.S. I was being sarcastic with that whole 'rich white-guy' thing. Aren't you the same guy that wails his head off about 'racial profiling', though?
P.P.S. It's 'inane', Casey. This was the inevitable 'inane' riposte. ;)
Ture facts. My old history teacher had a sign that said, "If you can't change your mind, are you sure you still have one?" It is time to move past Flip-flop, of course peoples minds change with new information and time.
Casey?
In an effort to stop an inevitable and innane counter post not his tax dollars, COTO is a Canadian.
Outstanding! (and the war profiteering of this administration is rather criminal, is it not?). OK, that's inflammatory - but is it not immoral, off the charts? The war profiteering and contracting abuse? Waste, fraud, and abuse, indeed.
The troops are called upon to give up their lives, simply to satisfy the ego of a dry drunk (and he's not so dry anymore, if you've been watching the Olympic sidelines). Meantime, the troops have to PAY to get their luggage to the warfront, and Halliburton, et al, were established before the invasion to profit from the Iraq campaign. It's immoral off the charts, is it not? And where is all the financial remuneration that the US was supposed to receive from Iraqi oil sales? Wasn't that one major selling point of this boondoggle war in the first place?
Anyway, I hope the Olympics can further be milked by Mark for additional adaptation before they are over. Not sure how, but the event does seem timely. Chinese lip syncing and production "spin?" No wonder Bush wanted to go over there....
