Joe Biden commented in the debate about NATO going into Lebanon. Not true. Lebanon is not even a member of NATO. And Biden was chosen for his foreign policy expertise?? Maybe he is the idiot. Oh yes, and Biden's comment that he gets in touch with real Americans at Katie's Restaurant in Wilmington...........which has been closed for 20 years!! And then Biden told us that FDR was president in 1929 and went on television to reassure Americans. 36 years in Washington have left Biden brain dead. God help us.

First, in order to see Russia from Alaska, you have to go to this little island in the middle of the Bering straight on a clear day at its highest peak, and then you can see the other little island in the Bering straight which belongs to Russia. And she didn't know what the VP does everyday. Sure, this was before she joined the ticket, but isn't that 10th grade US history?

The surge in Iraq WAS successful. The problem is that we ignored Afghanastan. And the Taliban are grouping up in Pakistan.

The surge was in conjunction with PAYMENTS TO INSURGENTS to stop fighting against us. That is an important "small" fact that should be mentioned whenever there is a mention about the "surge".
A captain from my unit just
A captain from my unit just came back from Iraq. What he told us is that the Iraqi people, the ones that are just civilians who want to send their children to school, run their stores, farm their land, own their businesses, you know, thet things that everyone anywhere wants, volunteered to work with the American troops to fight. They were a kind of neighborhood watch. This watch, consisting of both Iraqi men and women pointed out the location of IEDs, explosive materials, the enemy in general, border patrols. This blossomed into about 10,000 people who, yes, did eventually have contracts with the US Army and did get paid. But the way you make it sound, everyone on Iraq is a soldier, and in order for the surge to have worked, we had to pay them off.
I wonder if you got this small "fact" from the US news media, or if you're military and you really know what you're talking about.
And, furthermore, the goal
And, furthermore, the goal of the surge was to give the Iraqi government "breathing space" to unite all the factions. Both they and the Bush White House said over a year ago that it hadn't happened and wasn't going to happen.
So the surge didn't meet its goal. In other words, **IT FAILED**.

It will be a difficult task
It will be a difficult task pacifying this region of the world, as the British tried in the 19th century and failed, the Soviets tried in the 1980s and they failed, and now, it is NATO's turn, and it is not an objective to be reached in a few years. This objective can be reached only after a few GENERATIONS. Do the citizens of the NATO countries be patient and realistic enough to cope with this situation?
