George Zimmerman, Off The Hook

Category Cartoons

The George Zimmerman trial was about much more than race.  In fact, while everyone was talking about racial issues surrounding the death of Trayvon Martin, the jury was guided by metastasizing Stand-Your-Ground laws.  You need look no further than the jury instructions to find the power of the NRA and ALEC.
The defense in the Zimmerman trial was able to put the burden of proof on the victim, Trayvon Martin.  The question became, what had this unarmed teenager done to scare an armed man who was following him, not, why did the armed man follow and kill the unarmed teen?  The guy with the gun had more legal protections than the unarmed kid.  What would happen if we expanded these gun rights even further?  That's where Shoot-em-up Charlie comes in.
If you dig a little deeper, you'll find there are cases that are even more awful than the Zimmerman case.  While Shoot-em-up Charlie takes the lead on this cartoon, stick around at the end to listen to a truly disturbing 911 call from a man about to put these new laws into action
Be sure to comment, like, share and do all that good social media stuff so more people can see this cartoon and we'll continue to have a discussion about these ridiculous laws.

Injecting humor into important discussions is a brilliant concept. Stewart and Colbert do this masterfully to illuminate critical issues plaguing our country. Well done Mark Fiore.

God bless Geoge Zimmerman and Jim Horn. And who the hell does that dispatcher think he is telling him not to stop these lazy welfare bums to stop them and let them get away with stealing from americans? No one innocent died they brought it all on themselves. The real reason liberals are upset is because now no more unarmed americans will die.

Hey Mark, why don’t you go downtown Philadelphia on any given night or for that matter any big city on any given night and see how far you get. You Liberals are all bells and whistles only when you think the story could use a little flavoring. What about the young black men who die violently in these cities each and every night? Funny, I hear crickets.

So, you advocate being able to go to a neighborhood you think is scary to hunt young black men and kill them violently to save them from killing each other violently?
Sorry if I'm wrong, that's the only meaning I can discern here.

A bag a property more important is more important than a life?
Hunting someone down off one's own property is "stand your own ground?
Sounds like offensive action, occupation of someone else's ground.
Sounds like debtor's prison, propertied people, or those just claiming to act in their name, having more rights than others.
    This is not the USA.
