Syria's Royal Easel
If only the people of Syria had the attention-getting device of the British "Royal Easel," made famous with last week's announcement of the royal baby, lucky little George Alexander. The birth of a single baby got wall-to-wall cable news coverage for a week or more, while 93,000 Syrians dying in a brutal civil war were noted in passing by the attention-deficient cable news hounds.
Sure, what's going on in Syria is confusing and scary and tends to make our eyes glaze over, but what's happening now matters because it will eventually have an impact on all of us. (See Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, etc.)
But, hey, I'm not a doom-and-gloom, depressed cartoonist. There are some genuinely absurd and funny (in a depressing-lite sort of way) things about this terrible civil war. Assad has succeeded in bringing Israel and Islamic jihadists together, joined together in attacking the Syrian regime with various explosive devices. My enemy's enemy is my . . . er, never mind.
And remember, one of the best (or only) things you can do to help the people of Syria is to donate to the relief efforts that help refugees.
Hey, what did you expect, Weiner jokes? (Maybe next week.) Be sure to share far and wide, comment, like and do all that other good stuff that will help the NSA build a good profile of you!
